Jumper

I netflix'd the movie Jumper recently, for the sole reason that parts of it were filmed in my home town of Ann Arbor.  I was pleasantly surprised to find myself enjoying the movie.

The plot involves an angsty teenager, David, who discovers that he can teleport ("jump").  He spends a few years,  living large,  jumping to London for a drink in a pub and then off to Egypt for a suntan, as well as to the inside of bank vaults world-wide -- coming out with full pockets.  He discovers people with this ability have existed for centuries and finds himself in a war that has been raging for thousands of years between "Jumpers" and the "Paladins" who have sworn to kill them.

I did really enjoy the fact that the movie was filmed in Ann Arbor,  as well.   The main characters attend Huron High and ride Ann Arbor Public School buses,  David falls through the ice into the Huron River in Gallop Park,  scenes pass through downtown and show Michigan Book and Supply.  Ann Arbor is mentioned several times by name.

I've heard of folks enjoying Grosse Pointe Blank for similar reasons -- it was filmed in their home town -- but that one never really did it for me.  Yes,  it's an amusing picture,  but I don't have the emotional attachment that they do.
