1. I have a cage that is something like 2ft x 3ft x 4ft. King's cage, maybe? I can't seem to find a label on it. I bought it at a then-local place (The Birdbrain, in Denver), several years ago.
I have a green cheeked and a black capped conure sharing it.
2. That size. I used to have them in cages about 18in x 18in x 24in. Oh, too small, way too small!
3. I like the flat top, cause I can set things up for them on that surface. I think the proportions of the current cage are about right - I would not want one taller and narrower, but one the same height and depth, but longer in the other horizontal direction, would be great.
4. Too big?! Ha! Within about a day of putting them in this cage, I started thinking, "You know, one twice that size would be AWESOME." I would love to someday live somewhere where I had a room I could turn into their "cage." (Not an enormous room, mind, I'm not that selfless.) For any flighted parrot bigger than a budgie (and that's a bit of a stretch), I am skeptical that any cage can be big enough to allow them much meaningful flight.
5. They do use the whole thing. They spend more time in their favorite high spot, next to the bed, than they do elsewhere, but they do climb around everywhere, forage on the cage floor, etc. I try to encourage this by putting interesting things all around.
