Cold and birds

In case anyone doubts that birds are insane can take the cold, my house thermostat is currently set to 65ºF, and despite being wrapped in a down comforter I'm still cold, and just a few minutes ago I caught Kappa bathing in her water bowl! I think it's an odd time to do it, right before her bedtime with the house so cold, but I'm also delighted b/ ( Read more... )

Munchkin prefers bathing in cold water (over room temp water) ...weird. I suppose their instincts tell them it's "fresh" and less likely to be stagnant and full of bacteria.

My birds still bathe in their water dish (mostly Icarus bathes, and Daedalus hangs out nearby to catch the spray) and my house is much, much colder than 65*F. :)

None of my animals except the tortoises seem to mind the cold much, and the torties have heat lamps. One of the benefits of having fur or feathers, I suppose.

I've offered Sunshine warm-water baths before. She prefers the cold. Idungeddit. ::shrug:: But she does prefer to bathe when it's warmer in the house.
