Poop problems.

Okay I need to talk to you guys about.. poop. This is concerning my Yellow Naped Amazon, Feefe, who I've talked about and brought him to the vet about a month and a half ago for some concern about something, and he turned out to be healthy. Had gram stain tests and the vet looked him over and said he was perfectly healthy aside from being (His exact words) "chubby and horny". So Feefe started on Harrison's pellets diet along with fresh organic vegetables.

Now, I cant remember when this started happening frequently.. but for the last few weeks, he's been pooping outside of his cage. His cage is right next to me in my bedroom, just two feet away. And his projectile poop is going about a foot out of the c age. I moved his trapeeze swing back a bit, because he usually hangs on it and then poops and that's how it gets out. But he'll hang on to the bars at the front of the cage, and poop, and it just goes all over my carpet. I've gone through so many bottles of cleaner.. and my carpet is being ruined.

Now the problem is that his poops are starting to smell. I know bird poops don't usually smell, and the one right now literally smelled like rotten eggs.

I started also giving them Nutri-berries last week, and I haven't been able to get to the supermarket to get fresh produce to give them their usual daily dose of veggies for the last few days now.. I have never smelled bird poop like this.

Of course I am going to contact my avian vet ASAP, as soon as he opens tomorrow morning I am calling.. unless they won't be there for Memorial DAy, but I'm hoping he will be or I can at least get in touch with him. THen make an appointment to bring Feefe in for some tests as soon as possible.

I am just wondering if any of you have ever had any of this happen? I think that poop that smells is usually a sign of an infection? I wonder how this happened.. He just got a clean bill of health less than two months ago :( I thought maybe it's the change in his diet, because I think the projectile poop started around the time he started getting pellets. The consistency of his poop is good, I see all the parts it should have, and it's not gritty feeling at all, it's smooth.

Again, I'm just asking for any experiences you've had like this, and I will be talking to and visiting my avian specialist with him for sure.

He is also acting perfectly normal aside from this. Eating, drinking, not losing feathers, sleeping the same amount, playing the same amount, etc.

health, poop
