I'm moving soon. Being the avid bird-watcher I am, I'm going to miss the guys around here! There's lots of birds I've grown familiar with, can pick out their individual personalities and know which ones like which ones and so on, like how the gulls are at constant war with the crows over who gets to steal which kid's lunch at the high school, and how the snowy egret constantly stalks the great egret ( to the great's displeasure ), how the geese randomly bicker at one another and get really irritated if a duck steals their favorite bathing spot, how the little native hawk ( probably a kestrel ) freaks out if any of the bigger imports get anywhere close to my backyard ( ie, his territory ). It's also nice to hear the songs of the coyotes at night, and the distant mooing of the cows during the day. I hope in Tuscon there will be more wildlife to fall in love with!
And earlier I posted about maybe getting a quaker -- I love quaker parrots, I really do. They're adorable, their 'squeak-toy' voices are just hilarious to listen to, and they look like bundles of joy.. But I'm pretty sure I'm going for a dove again. Of all the pets I've ever had, my little ringneck dove was closer to me than any other; he'd literally shiver with excitement in the morning when I took off the cage cover to take him down for the day! But with this said..
My googling so far says there aren't any ringneck dove breeders in the area ( at least that are listed publically ). I won't make a decision or actively start searching until I actually get down there and get employed / save up lots of money, but I was wondering about mailing birds. Alot of breeders I DID find offer mailing services, and that just weirds me out to no end! How does one usually go about mailing birds? Is it safe for the bird? And lastly, do you guys know of any good lists of non-corporately owned bird breeders in or near Tuscon Arizona? Bonus points if they have or specialize in ringneck doves; more bonus points if they're of the pied variety!
--A person that's relatively new to this!
PS:: I'm still selling that bird cage from my previous post! It's too small to be even your smallest bird's main cage but would make a good temp or maybe nesting cage -- 40$ and comes with a toy, two wooden perches and three feed or water dishes. Post or message me with offers!
