Anybody here have experience with the Poquito Avian Hotel? Here's the product listings on
Windy City Parrot and
Doctors Foster and Smith. Its dimensions are given differently on the two sites as either (approximately) 14x18x18", or 14x14x18", bar spacing 1/2", powder coated. The cage is described as being "not for car travel" and I'd like to know what about it makes it unsuitable for car usage.
I'm considering this cage for my dusky conure Kappa for trips of a weekend to a week in length. I am not sure whether she would get much time out of this cage while using it. Taking her with me on trips would be a last resort, as I think she'd do better boarding at a trusted place she's familiar with than traveling to a strange place in an unfamiliar cage, but sometimes the boarder fills up. I already have a cockatiel cage of similar dimensions (14x18x18"), but I worry that it's not sturdy enough for Kappa. Her normal cage is an EFC (
HQ flight cage), and she loves the large size and shows no evidence of being a bar chewer.
Does keeping an active dusky conure in a cage this size for a week sound like something she'd forgive me for? Does the Poquito Avian Hotel sound like it's worth getting, or should I use the cockatiel cage or is there something else you recommend? Of course if it turns out I'm crazy and shouldn't be shoving her into such a small thing even for a week, then if I can't board her I just wouldn't go on the trip.
