two posts in one day!!
this is text only... Anyone have any advise on disabled birds? my family used to breed budgies YEARS ago and we always got one of two kinda deformed ones, usually it couldnt fly, or its legs where splayed out or something, but they all had long, healthy and happy lives. The budgies i acquired about 2 months ago, bred and ive got 5 baby budgies, all of which are not (sort of) flying. One, how ever, is not.
He (or she?!) was thrown out of the nest when it was really little and barely feathered, was all cut up and stuff, we cleaned him up and popped him back in (we couldnt just let him die!) but im guessing he was thrown out due to something not being right with him. Poor think really can not fly. he can barely get himself off the ground. He has a slightly strange shape about him too. most probably from the fall. Im guessing he broke his foot too at some stage, or its just deformed. its pretty much unusable. Ive had budgies with pretty much one foot before, they had no problem living like that, but this poor guy cant fly, when they could!
has anyone had an experience of this? im thinking of somehow making a suspended platform in the avery with a ladder or a ramp he can climb up so he can be with the rest of the budgies and sort of climb around? poor darling just sits at the bottom on the avery and hobbles around. its so sad!
(he's currently cuddled up in my cardigan) id like to keep him with the rest of the birds (as long as they dont pick on him) or find him a really good home, someone who has time for him and just him only!!
any advice would be lovely!!
