Hi everyone!
I'm just posting to update on Coconut, the goffins cockatoo with a mutilating problem. After 2 months of worry, she has an entirely clean bill of health (at least as far as ruling out known issues) and several days ago chewed her way out of her own collar and hasn't needed to go back in it since. She has not plucked or mutilated in that time.
She is also eating a diet of entirely fresh foods and has successfully converted off seed. Her uric acid level has gone way down after being high in early february and while she still has seizures occasionally, we can't find any medical reason for this and they are happening a lot less often now.
I'm astonished at her recovery from self-mutilating, I thought it was going to take years. Certainly we will be keeping a weather eye out for this sort of thing in the future but for now I am so thankful, relieved and blessed. Coming home every day to a happy bird without a collar on is like a dream come true.
(Oh, and I got a job!)
Thank you to everyone who offered advice on her problems, I have really appreciated your support.
