So I got back in from Pirates of the Caribbean 2: The Curse of Bill Nighy's Beard last night, turned on the TV, and who did I see but Forrest Whitaker? Interesting, I thought. I wonder what he's in? So the reason for my absence on Tinternets recently has been my more pressing duty at a birthday party in Cambridge for me, Roger and Hester. A full write-up is coming later, but for now here's my review of 'The Age of Steel'.

No time to reply to everyone's comments - I'm going off to see Romance & Cigarettes in about half an hour - so here's a speedy review of last night's Doctor Who episode. Contains spoilers for episode four and the episode five trailer.

( It's the one where the Doctor gets a job as a judge on 'Strictly Dance Fever', then finds out that one of his fellow judges is The Valeyard! And even worse, another one is Arlene Phillips )

The French called it the "hot and cold shower" - though obviously they did that in French, which I can't speak. It was a reference to the purposely disjointed house style of their infamous Grand Guignol theatre, which staged an almost random selection of bawdy farces and gruesome tragedies in an effort to shock and startle the audience.
