So. Yeah. Finished Mockingjay at midnight last night - and by the end of it, I was pretty much a sobbing wreck of a human.

Do I really need to cut for spoilers? )

PEETA. PEETA.

I just. I can't articulate HOW MUCH I love him, ogmygod.

And I really liked Mockingjay. It was bleak, but I think I expected that, what with this being a world where they televise a fight to the death as the ultimate in entertainment. *g*

That is true.

I think the moment that I started getting really worried that the end would be terrible for everyone is right after you find out what's happened to Peeta and Gale is talking about luring citizens out in order to blow them up. Just. Like. Seriously?

Peeta was, for all intents and purposes, gone. Katniss was absolutely broken. And Gale was being totally mercenary.

So when I say that...hmm. It was kind-of unrelenting bleakness, eh?

But I still fucking LOVED it.

Yes. And I did the same thing you did when I finished. I closed Mockingjay then opened Hunger Games again and started rereading immediately.

Everything about it. Every moment. When she reminds him of the little things, when she says "don't let him take you from me," every touch, every look, "because that's what we do, we take care of each other."

Because suddenly, it wasn't easy for Katniss. She had to fight for Peeta just as he had to fight for her.

Omg. Yeah. Now I'm wanting to read it again.

So now I can share my absolute favorite fanart with you - no idea who drew it, but I call it "nightmares."

OMG.

'Don't let him take you from me.'

Holy GOD. I was, like, whimpering at that.

And yes - suddenly, it got really hard and she hated it and was so frustrated and so didn't want to want to do it, but she HAD to. I think Kate put it best when she said her feelings come through crystal clear when she's not on guard, but she's always on guard.

When they rescue Annie and Peeta? And she's running toward him and just thinking that she doesn't need to say anything because they'll be kissing? Yeah. Just. Yeah.

Art is awesome, but where is the fic?! *g*

Thank you!

Yes, I have the feeling that I'm going to be rereading these like a FIEND. My friend started reading them this weekend as well (we totally didn't know that the other had started) and she texted me today - she had just gotten to the interview. And she was all, 'Oh my God, he loves her!' Hee!

I'm so glad you made me read these. Seriously.

I don't know about fic, man. Writing it, at least. I think I need to reread a few times. *g* I need to wallow around in it some more, then we'll see if they start talking.

I love them so much!!

ZOMG, THANK YOU FOR THE RECS.

(Sorry, not my journal, but I'm hungry for any Hunger Games discussion).

I need to do a reread. I just didn't get as attached to Peeta and most of my other friends have. Maybe I was too fixated on other things. *shrugs* But, yeah, pretty wowza style books they is.

I loved the first book. I loved the second. I have issues with some world building in the third (all those tarpaulin set the Capitol always?) but I loved Peeta and Katniss's relationship and jnteractions all the way through. But Finnick is my heartbreak. Like Sirius or Remus and I should have seen it coming.

FINNICK.

Oh my God. The third one is such unrelenting bleakness...I felt, like, almost numb by the time Finnick died. I mean, I was crying and whimpering but I don't think anything would have surprised me at that point.

I love that the end is not perfect, but it's...peaceful. And Katniss, Peeta and Gale all kind-of got what they wanted. Katniss was left alone to live, Peeta got Katniss and Gale got his revolution. But terrible, awful things had to happen first.

I don't know, man. I just loved it.
