This episode - as with a few others - really do show us how far Rodney McKay has come since we first saw him in 48 Hours.   This is man who would understand why Carter was so unwilling to just give up on Teal’c.   I loved how through out the episode Rodney was one trying to get everyone to believe that this Carson was just as good as the old one. He was so desperate to have his friend back that he threw caution to the wind.  It was so unlike him yet at no time did it feel out of character.    That is not an easy thing to do, but they (the writers) managed to do it in this episode.

Carson’s reaction to Elizabeth’s is a reminder of just how much as been lost - how much things have changed.  To the people of Atlantis Carson and Elizabeth have been gone for some time. They are use to it. They still may be mourning, but they are moving on.  They don’t really have much choice.

I liked how it was Rodney who went to talk to Carson.  He is one of Carson’s closest friends.  If Elizabeth had been there no doubt she would have been there as well, but it would not have work to have Sam there.  Carson doesn’t really know her and she doesn’t know him. And that was a good thing.  She could  (and for the most did) stay objective. The others couldn’t…

It was nice to see the guy from Missing again.  And to Keller’s reaction when she realized it was him. The guy who had tried is very best to kill her.  Her and Teyla.  But true doctor and trouper that she is, she does operate on the guy. Even when it looked like what she really wanted to do was go and see how Carson was and what was wrong with him.

And that leads us to one of the best lines in the episode. At least for some of the fans that is.  An in-joke is often an iffy thing, but in this case it works. One could see Carson saying something like  “a dog’s breakfast” in the context it was said.  So it had me chuckling for some time.

I am glad to see that it looks like Kanan is the father of Teyla’s baby and that Michael’s interest in the child is because he thinks understanding the boy’s genetic makeup will help him in his cause. I thought it was interesting that until Michael mentioned it Teyla clearly had not thought about how having two parents with the gift might effect her child.

And it was good to see the Athosians again. (Particularly Halling.  Is there something wrong with me in that now that we have seen Halling again, I want an episode with both Halling and Todd? )   I do wonder what will happen to them now that they have lost so many.  Will they go back to their old new home?  Try to find a new home? I hope they address this in season five.

The end of the episode was wonderful. I love the idea that Carson wants to kill Michael. That is a huge change for him and I don’t think that it was because he was a clone. It was because of the two years of hell he had been put through. The fact that Michael had used Carson’s knowledge to kill and/or mutilate who knows how many innocent victims is something that is going to haunt him for some time to come.  And I think that one reasons he wanted to go with the team to rescue Teyla.  He was looking for some sort of redemption.   And because he is NOT the real Carson, he couldn’t do it. He couldn’t kill Michael and he couldn’t save Teyla.  While it wasn’t entirely his fault they lost her again, it was still another failure in is mind.

Now as much as I loved the rest of the episode I wasn’t that impressed with the last scene.  I did fell for the characters - and I loved that we learned why Ronon had kept Carson at arm’s length. I loved watching Rodney babble on and on - because he didn’t know what else to do. He really couldn’t deal with the fact that he was loosing his friend once again.   But it didn’t feel real to me. A big part of that is because I don’t believe that this last we will see of Carson.  They are not going to just forget about him.  So it just didn’t seem like a death scene to me.  But other then that, I thought this was a great episode.
