#171 The most sensitive parts of the body are the mouth and the fingertips.
“There, now you are fed and dry and you have no reason to cry anymore,” Jack said as he patted his daughter’s freshly diapered bottom as she lay on the changing table in front of him. “We have to let Mommy sleep for a while because you kept us busy last night, peanut.”
“Don’t tell anyone, but Daddy took a nap at work,” he whispered as she stared up at him. “You are a lot of work for something so tiny, aren’t you?” he asked her and she answered with a yawn. “I know, your life is so rough,” he replied as he ran his hands down her legs, grabbing her feet and kissing the bottom of them. “Ready to try to go to sleep for a little bit?” he asked and after snapping her into her sleeper, picked her up, settling her against his shoulder causing her to whimper in protest. He held her close and bounced as he walked over to the rocker that was situated in the middle of her simply decorated nursery.
Jack had wanted to give their daughter the best of everything - top-of-the-line crib and fancy high thread count sheets, but Liz insisted she didn’t need the Mercedes of cribs, just something that wouldn’t collapse and wasn’t covered in lead-based paint. The walls were painted a sunny yellow color and the large room was bathed in the fading light of the early summer evening.
He would be the first to admit that in the few short weeks since she had been born, he had fallen madly in love with Tessa. Truthfully, it was love at first sight. She had the dark thick hair of both of her parents, Jack’s blue eyes, and Liz’s nose. He had taken the week after she was born off from work and spent the majority of his time staring at her and Liz as they both dozed peacefully between feedings. For someone who had spent most of his life alone and without the desire for children, his realized his life had never felt complete until he had his wife and baby girl beside him.
