Things That Are Cool, Things That Are Uncool

Things that are cool:

1) There are two sushi places moving in on 53rd St., which is two blocks south of my house.
1a) Even cooler is: One of them appears to be a Japanese/Italian restaurant. How awesome is that?
2) I have wangled a four-day weekend for myself this quarter.
3) My collection of Dykes To Watch Out For books is nearly complete.
4) I have finished the first draft of a new Romeo and Juliet fic. I am feeling very pleased with myself about this.

Things that are not cool:

1) My apartment, which is downright cold. The University wants to save heating fuel by not turning the boilers on when it's sixty-five degrees outside, since they claim that the buildings retain heat. This is great ecological theory, and I'd be all behind it, if it were actually true. The truth is that the buildings do not retain heat. The heat flows out the windows, which are old and rotting. The University has tried to replace the windows, but they seem not to have bribed the right city government official, because the city has been blocking their efforts to replace the windows. So we have old ratty windows, and the boilers aren't on, and I'M COLD GODDAMMIT!

2) The prospect of having class on Yom Kippur totally bites. The prospect of having to be present and non-bitchy during the opening session of a workshop that I'm co-coordinating, also on Yom Kippur, bites even more than that. And the fact that this workshop has traditionally been associated with classy, high-quality snacks takes a big ol' chomp.
