Summary: Kyuhyun never thought 'love' was supposed to be easy.

He'd always been curious about it, actually - not as though he would ever admit it. Watching the four seasons pass, every time, there was some form of 'love' present. It was sometimes impossible to miss, or even such a subtle detail, you would need to settle your eyes upon it for at least a few seconds. Couples: holding hands in the snow, sharing umbrellas in the rain, with piggyback rides on a day of laughter, strolling over crunching leaves.

In a way, he missed it. But that was impossible.

You can't miss what you never had.

~~~
The upstairs music room was their retreat. Everything was light and shimmering with a newness - everything except the ebony grand piano Sungmin loved. When he and Ryeowook first entered this school, they stuck close together, huddled in a pair, always side by side, like it had been since they were young. Within a very few number of days the intimidating fear of their upperclassmen washed away, which led them to explore; the grounds had become their playplace.
With a sound click of the door, it had become theirs. Not once had they ever grown bored of returning to the same place, each and every day - How could they? Because here, it was just the two of them, seconds ticking away, just enjoying the other's presence.
Soft footsteps and mild voices echoed up the stairwell.
"You really lost all your English notes?"
"Yeah... I said already." The voice grumbled, but rose to a perkier sound. "I'll pay you back! How does-- Well, uh. I was going to offer part of my lunch tomorrow... but you're a better cook than me," the voice laughed, reaching the top step. He stood to the side, waiting for the other to catch up.
Ryeowook smiled, sweeping in line next to his friend. "Hyung~ That's not true. I think your cooking's fine!" He chirped.
They crept inside the still room, sliding onto the piano bench. Lunch break flew by, passed with the regular friendly conversations that had no set pace, destination, or topic - instead they scrambled all over through words and actions. The boys rose from their seat, cleaned up, and marched their way back to the classroom.
Simultaneously, they arrived to the door - racing to slip in first. Ryeowook had won, but only because Sungmin obviously let him. Just as Sungmin had flicked the door open, their professor stepped in the entrance way. The elder man made a gesture and led the student, just moving outside the doorway. He requested to speak with Sungmin after school.
Sungmin nodded, excused himself, and returned to the classroom.
~~~

Kyuhyun strode his way out of the crowd, hasty steps carrying him until the mass' thinned edges. His phone rang, nearly startling him - He paused next to the school's fountain, centered in the front courtyard, digging the noisy gadget out from his bookbag.

"Hello?" He groaned.

The one on the line's opposite breathed a quick 'hiya' into the receiver. The sound of shuffling desks and chair squeaking against the floorboards could faintly be heard. Finally, he spoke firmly: "You left your - at least I think they're yours, they're on your desk - notebook in the classroom. If these really are your notes. I dunno! They're kinda--"

"Yes, they're mine, thank you, be there soon." Kyuhyun finished annoyedly after searching his bag. Indeed! He left them in the classroom; he wouldn't have needed them today. So, the study material wasn't very important - but the less questions from Donghae, the better. Kyuhyun just hoped he hadn't started reading through them...

~~~
"Hyung, I left my phone in the music room, but I'll go pick it up and come back to wait for you!"
Sungmin returned an appreciative smile. "I'll probably be awhile, so just go home without me. Hurry while the rain's still calm," he joked. By the time he guessed the teacher would have finished his lecture, the showers were supposed to kick in.
Ryeowook lurched to argue, but the words caught in his throat. Momentarily he looked down to his feet, but soon nodded, lips pursed. "See you tomorrow!" he called, scurrying out of the classroom.
"Bye, Wookie~" He waved a good-bye, then let his hand fall back to the table he stood by. His smile quickly faded.
He approached the professor's desk.
~~~

When Kyuhyun had reached the main hall that led to his classroom, Donghae met him halfway there.

"Would you mind telling me what these are?" Donghae teased, flailing the notebook over his shoulder.

"Hey-- Hey! No," Kyuhyun gave a stern scold, his hand darting out to catch what's his. Donghae's arm pulled back, a playful squint in his eyes. Kyuhyun shot a narrow glare, a scowl paired along - countering Donghae's jesting manner perfectly. The elder cheerfully surrendered his hostage before Kyuhyun could tackle him down; even with a scrawny body like that, Donghae wasn't sure if he was willing to risk anything.

Kyuhyun crossed his arms with a noisy huff, Donghae coyly poking his tongue out from between his lips - just to lighten the mood a little. It was proven a success when Kyuhyun rolled his eyes, letting loose a small sigh.

"...But seriously," Donghae tested again. "Which planet's language did you learn in your free time?" He cocked his head. Simultaneously his hand rose, a defined 'V' separating his third and fourth fingers.

"Just shut up," Kyuhyun hissed. A door clicked shut. His eyes flickered away from Donghae's shrinking smile, just catching the back of someone's head, their heavy footsteps clopping down the hall. He had known the person to be Lee Sungmin.

What Kyuhyun didn't know was how Sungmin's head hung lower than just twenty minutes before...

~~~
Ryeowook was gone, and Sungmin couldn't be surprised. He told him to leave, and watched him -  from the classroom window, he watched the boy cross the school gates... even giving a few unsure looks over his shoulder.
When Sungmin came down to the school entrance, Hyukjae pushed off the wall, offering a grin and wave. "What took ya? I have your umbrella, by the way, so don't bother looking for it," which earned an odd look from Sungmin, who truly had been searching for the umbrella in question.
"...What are you still doing here?" Sungmin smiled affectionately, regardless of his puzzlement. Hyukjae shrugged with a pleased look on his face, swinging an arm over his friend's shoulder. The umbrella popped open as Hyukjae escorted him out.
The taller of the two gave a brief chuckle. "What can I say, I'm an awesome friend!" He stopped in his tracks, Sungmin only noticing when he stepped out to be pelted with more than a few drops of rain. Sungmin looked back, Hyukjae clinging onto the white and red umbrella possessively. "...Who kinda forgot an umbrella today,"
Sungmin shook his head slowly and returned to the other's side. He pat him on the shoulder. "C'mon, let's go, you... you... unfortunate totem of bad luck. I wanna stay at your place for a bit!" Hyukjae brightened and again slung his arm across Sungmin's shoulders, swaying them both in the rain.
~~~

Kyuhyun and Donghae padded to the school's front steps.

"Who is he?"

"H-Huh?"

"Him." He made a nonchalant motion towards the umbrella wielder. Donghae had no clear comment (or care) of his newly piqued interest, which Kyuhyun happened to be thankful for.

'You're never just curious about someone? Maybe interested in who they are?'

Ridiculous question.

'No, of course not.'

"That's... Eunhyuk. Lee Hyukjae." The corners of Donghae's mouth tugged into a frown.

"Names mean mostly nothing to me. Except nicknames. You gave him a nickname?"

Now Donghae grimaced. "I didn't! They just call him that,"

"Who does?" 'How many questions are you going to ask about this one guy? Shisus.'

"Everyone else and why are you suddenly wanting to know his life story!" Donghae exhaled, nearly exasperated.

Kyuhyun felt that another addition to his question streak would be the trigger to setting him off. "...Calm down."

Saying 'I am calm' would be quite the obvious fib. "I... am calm."

"Okay, great. So now you wouldn't at all mind sharing how he got a nickname so out-there."

The other snorted.

"He 'shines on stage, just like a friggin' jewel,'" was how the quote apparently went - and in the most nasally, high-pitched voice Donghae could handle. Kyuhyun assumed it was meant to be a girl. Donghae cleared his throat. "He... He dances."

Kyuhyun quirked an eyebrow. "Oho. He's better than you?"

A smirk painted over Donghae's face.

"He's nothing special."

A/N: I apologize for the Eunhyuk hostility from Fishy. XD He won't always be like this, promise...! <3 He's just too himself and it's adorable. I was also supposed to make him curse, but I... I COULDN'T DO IT. ;u;
Buuuut. I think I might be able to bring Yesungie in for the next chapter. Yaaaaaay.~

I know I don't really have that many readers yet, but I'm always open for suggestions, corrections, constructive criticism... xD Even story ideas; they're fantastic! <3 Most anything you can give me will be appreciated~! ^^

Oh and. On the off-chance that you didn't know this, because there is still a chance, Hyukjae's stage name does in fact mean "jewel"~ Or "silver." I've really heard it called either; but the main point is, it's his nickname. xD

And LOL, if I am wrong about this... I'm so sorry. I may not be as reliable as I think. /cry

Also, I'm very sorry about how random this chapter might feel. It sure seems that way to me. D':
