I like your thoughts and yes, it was fun breaking Gmail.

Boo for the loss of sleep!

I think it's a bit of an overstatement to call them anything approaching coherent, but :D anyway.

I will make up for it! ... someday.

Whenever we're off "voluntary" overtime.

This voluntary overtime seems not voluntary even a little.

ACTUALLY

I remember: I copied down the email we got sent in case anyone was curious.

Good Morning,

We are reaching out to the entire staff for voluntary overtime. The overtime can be additional shifts and/or extending your scheduled shifts (No one to work longer than a 12 hour shift). Your participation is anticipated. We are hoping to avoid Mandatory Overtime that we suffered through last summer.

Please complete your scheduled analyses during the normal work week. Additional assignments should be completed during the overtime activities.

Make sure to attain pre-approval from the Management staff for any hours you would expect to be paid on an overtime basis.

Thank you,

"Your participation is anticipated" ... there's just something about that phrasing.

Yeeeeeeah.

I have seriously considered finding a dictionary I don't want, highlighting the "voluntary" entry, and tearing the page out and leaving it in his mailbox.

I have also seriously considered keeping a job I really do like.

So it's basically mandatory overtime, is what I'm reading. Like when I used to have "optional" practice, even though it was strongly suggested we come.

The difference being that actual mandatory overtime is 10 hours/week. But otherwise yeah.
