I decided I wanted a fanfic master list, because all the coolkids have one.
Currently pretty much everything I’ve written for Homestuck fandom is gathered
on AO3, so you can just look there. But putting it here lets me gather it all on a single page, as well as add some brief commentary (being untumblr’d, I never really get a chance to talk about my own fics, wwoe). I’ll do my best to keep this more or less up-to-date. Comments always welcome.
Word counts are lifted straight off AO3 and may be inaccurate in places, e.g. where Pesterlogs are concerned. Please note that all my fics contain bad language ranging from the restrained to the copious; this is what comes of writing Dave Strider a lot. I haven’t bothered to tag them individually for that.
New Game PlusWords: 3,978
Ships: nothing explicit, but hints of John/Rose, Dave/Jade, and Karkat/Terezi
Warnings: nah
Notes: My first ever fanfic! Awww. Written on a whim during one update hiatus, and intended as a speculative ‘happy ending’ for the comic: the four kids, plus Karkat, Terezi, Kanaya, and Sollux, make a new life for themselves post-Sburb on a brand new planet. It’s shaky, as I was still trying to get the character voices right, but there are hits as well as misses. I think the scene with Rose and Terezi is probably my favourite part, and it’s a pairing I’ve meant to come back to ever since.
XenosWords: 3,603
Ships: Dave/Terezi
Warnings: Dave/Terezi
Notes: Still my favourite of all the things I’ve written for Homestuck. Essentially curtainfic: Terezi goes to stay the night at Dave’s apartment, he cooks, they score points off each other. This is the closest I’ve ever come to capturing a canon relationship exactly the way it works in my head. Also made me some cool friends. If you are looking to sample my stuff, I recommend starting here (unless you really hate Dave/Terezi for some reason, but if that’s the case, fair warning, I may not be the author for you).
The White HouseWords: 3,620
Ships: Kanaya/Rose
Warnings: cocktails
Notes: A companion piece to Xenos, taking place during the same evening. Kanaya goes to stay the night at Rose’s house, they watch Casablanca, there are misunderstandings. I have Strong Feelings about how to write both Rose and Kanaya (mostly Rose), and I don’t think I got it quite right here, but I still like it. My original plan was to make this a quartet, with trolls going to stay at the other kids’ houses as well, but I couldn’t decide whether I was more interested in sending Karkat to John or Jade. I may eventually come back and write the other two parts.
the career of his humourWords: 2,356
Ships: Dave/Terezi and Kanaya/Rose are both discussed
Warnings: snark
Notes: Pure fluff. The morning after Xenos and The White House, Dave and Rose meet up on Pesterchum to talk things over. D&R are always the characters I have the most fun writing, so this is hopelessly self-indulgent. Fight me.
Strider’s EdgeWords: 67,024
Ships: too many to mention; Dave/John, John/Rose, Dave/Terezi, John/Vriska, and Aradia/Sollux are all prominent
Warnings: blood, graphic violence, character death, shameless Britishness, general melancholy
Notes: My first AU, and for better or worse the fic with which my name is, and probably always will be, most closely linked. It’s essentially a reimagining of Homestuck as Brideshead Revisited - wide-eyed young John Egbert goes up to Oxford University and meets the glamorous, dissolute, disaffected David Lalonde. Your mileage may vary: a lot of people have been put off by it being too long, too wordy, too slow-paced, too pretentious, or too depressing, all of which are fair criticisms, and its pervasive 1920s colouring means it’s run into flak for both heteronormativity and erasure. However, it’s also attracted a lot of really lovely positive feedback, and overall I’m thrilled at how well fandom seems to have got on with it. Be warned that it is kind of upsetting, in parts.
Rita, Bob, and Mary SueWords: 5,442
Ships: Dave/Rose/Terezi (aww yeah)
Warnings: incest, obviously - nothing too explicit, but hints of smut near the end
Notes: This fic is very dear to my heart, partly because it was (to my knowledge) the first fic for this ship ever to be posted on AO3, and partly because I started writing it largely as a joke and then it turned out much better than I was expecting. Set at some undefined point during Sburb, with the kids and surviving trolls marooned in the Veil trying to stay sane. Rose writes dubious wizard fanfic; Dave contributes; things get rather out of hand. If any tiny part of you finds my OT3 strangely appealing, you may well enjoy this.
only dreams nowWords: 2,160
Ships: Dave/Terezi
Warnings: emotions
Notes: A fic I wrote for the 2011 Homestuck Shipping Olympics, during which I served proudly with Team Dave<3Terezi. It’s a mostly Pesterlog-based examination of Terezi’s relationship with Doomed Kiwi Suit Dave during the god tier shenanigans. As far as I’m concerned, its principal merit is the accompanying art, which
cephiedvariable drew for me out of the goodness of her heart and without being bribed at all; I’d always dreamed of having a fic illustrated, and Ceph’s pictures are just perfect for this one.
ErosWords: 2,929
Ships: Dave/Terezi
Warnings: Greek
Notes: Another fic from HSO ’11, this one a historical AU: in Classical Athens, Terezi is an itinerant philosopher with views on JUST1C3, Dave is a handsome young hoplite. A tribute to (/gleeful rip-off of) Plato’s Symposium, if that inclines you one way or the other.
Fade to Grey (or see it in its original form
here)
Words: 25,048
Ships: Dave/Terezi, hints of Aradia/John
Warnings: blood, graphic violence, torture, general nastiness
Notes: This fic isn’t mine; it was a collaborative effort by nearly all the members of T34M D4NC3 P4RTY, but I contributed to the writing (along with - and check this out for a line-up, it’s like the fucking JLA -
artillie,
cephiedvariable,
gatty,
lindensphinx, and
melindil; on art duties we had Ceph again,
naive_wanderer, and
odifen). I’m only linking to it here because I’m really proud of it and I want people to read it. Several years after the end of Sburb, the surviving kids and trolls have settled on a strange planet which was once a colony of the Alternian Empire. Some of them are fitting in nicely; some of them aren’t. It’s dark and complicated and morally ambiguous and deeply beautiful, and I’m really glad to have been a part of it. Don’t miss the bonus credits page at the end.
Three FragmentsWords: 4,662
Ships: Dave/Terezi, Dave/Karkat
Warnings: the first two fics are fine, but the third contains both graphic violence and character death
Notes: Three things I wrote for HSO ’11 which I didn’t think deserved separate posting. c100 is a Homestuck tribute to the 1980s comedy film Clue, based on the boardgame (which, by the way, is called Cluedo, and America is weird); good morning, sunshine is fluff dialogue between Dave and Terezi, both badly hungover; how far we’ve come is a short fic about Dave and Karkat trying to do the right thing at the end of Sburb.
