Come in to my world

My life is....god I can't even begin to describe my life right now. My first semester is beginning to wind down at NYU and it's been...well...interesting to say the least. I have probably re-evaluated my major / career choice about a billion times over the past month alone. Let us go through the process shall we? So as you know, I applied to this rediculously hard pre-med program to get into called humanities and medicine and the week after I handed in the application, I took my science midterms. Ugh, despite doing absolutely nothing but studying (and writing up the application)the two weeks before those midterms, I still managed to get a C on both the bio and the chem midterm. There goes my awesome GPA that I brought with me from UVM (3.75). Since I'm in college, I feel like I can no longer use the dyslexia and test anxiety excuse to satisfy my bad grades. So I began to seriously re-evaluate my career choices.

I came to the conclusion that if I couldn't do pre-med due to the awfulness that is NYU general Biology and Chemistry, I would go into one of three fields: Psychology, Theater Management / Production, or Music / Theater Education (as in become a high school music / theater teacher and direct the school plays hehe). Theater management became my favorite choice out of the three and that brings us through the month of November to last Friday.  I hadn't heard anything from the program so I just assumed that they didn't want me. I was getting ready to leave for my concert (which was awesome by the way) when an e-mail from an unfamiliar address popped into my inbox. I opened it and it was someone from the humanities and medicine program saying that they were very impressed with my application and they want to interview me for the program! It was quite exciting because I had put a lot of work into that application. Now there are only 30 spots for 600 applicants so my hopes aren't terribly high but this is a huge accomplishment for me and it puts pre-med back on the map. So while I'll probably regret this next semester when I'm killing myself studying, I'm going to finish up biology and chemistry.

The rest of my schedule for the coming semester is quite fun though. Since I'm in Gallatin, I created a tutorial on US Theater from 1930-1960 which I will be taking a large role in teaching (I created the syllabus, reading list, and assignments along with my  awesome shakespeare teacher). I'll also be taking two credits of voice lessons and two credits of piano lessons ...all together that gives me another 18 credits for next semester.  Anyways, as you can tell (and despite the science courses) I feel like I'm learning so much more here about music and theater than I could have ever imagined learning at UVM. I absolutely love it, finally something I want to do =D Anyways I must get on this Shakespeare critique (it's on a production of Richard III)
