"What are you doing with those, dear?" Shera inquired as she peered over at the spices Elfé was peering so curiously at. "We won't be needing those tonight. Cid doesn't like his meals too rich."

Though Shera usually had a thing or two to say about being left behind, this time she had actually volunteered. Cid and Cloud were more than capable of handling themselves, she knew, and with luck they wouldn't have to go far to find Aerith. And of course, the girl had to be starved after being stuck in the forest for so long due to the ship's engine troubles. With Elfé staying behind to help, Shera had full faith that they would have a meal enough for the six of them by the time the boys came back with their new guest.

"Is there anything in particular you're feeling, Elfé?" Shera inquired as she went back to peer into the pantry. "I'm not sure what to make for all of you. I haven't cooked for so many in a while."

"I'll eat anything," Elfé answered, all too truthfully. The last time her squad had run out of rations in Junon, they had spent a week living off of lizards. Before that were the wolves in Nibelheim, and before that, the Mus in the Grasslands--

...Suffice it to say, she wasn't a picky eater. (Though she did punch Shears in the gut when he had tried to force a plate of Malboro calamari on her.) If anything, Elfé might have requested for vegetarian dishes, in retrospect of those past experiences, but she realized that she really was hungry enough to affirm her prior statement.

"What can I do to help?" She asked quietly, feeling rather useless and entirely unknowledgeable about her surroundings--nothing new. Her gaze flickered about her stainless steel settings, involuntarily lingering on a very exquisite-looking set of cutting knives before resting back on Shera.

"...honestly," Shera sighed, tsking a little as she tried to get over all these kids who apparently had no preference whatsoever what they put into their stomachs. Did no one have favorite foods anymore? Like Zack, who ate everything with equal vigor. (Which Shera had found flattering, but at the same time it made her wonder if the boy had taste buds at all, or if he was remembering to chew before he inhaled.) And now here was Elfé, who apparently would eat anything set in front of her with no qualms. What was the world coming to ( ... )

"That... sounds good," she nodded, and her stomach let out a small growl in chorus. Elfé had gone so long without food she'd forgotten what it was like to need it. (And between yesterday's bouts of narcolepsy and today's lengthy travels, she hadn't had the time to put anything into her system.)

The girl nodded again in compliance to Shera's instructions, and made her way to the cutting board, eyes alight with anticipation. Her hand hovered over the smooth wooden handles of the cutlery next to it, settling on a large Santoku--it wasn't necessarily specialized for mincing, but she preferred its orthodox grip. (If anything, she could've done it with her katana, but she would've rather had it broken, than disgraced by putting it to culinary purposes.) The feel of the blade--...adaman? That's expensive...--brought back memories.

"Look Felicia! Look at what Daddy brought back from Wutai! Aren't these beautiful? Mommy will make you a delicious dinner! Wanna help? Don't let Daddy find out though, heehee~"Elfé winced, but the moment passed ( ... )
