FAQ

  • How does the game work?

Your first step is to decide whether or not you want your character to be a dimensional traveler or a permanent resident in one of the six worlds: Charon, Despina, Elara, Kale, Naiad, or Tarqeq.

Once your application has been accepted and you've joined all the appropriate communities, your character is free to roam within either their home dimension if they are a resident, or one dimension of your choosing if your character is a traveler.

The goal is for your character to interact not only with their new world but also the other players to hopefully form groups in which you'd like to travel with. Generally a single character can only pay for only one dimensional hop so if you don't want to end up stuck out-running a tentacle monster in Charon or fending off bandits in Kale for the rest of your time in the game, you'd best find some allies who'd be willing to split the price of infinite dimension jumping with you. (These people should not be hard to find. Those that can cross dimensions without Yuuko's help will be rare.)

Of course you're welcome to wander alone or to switch groups as your character's adventures unfold. As long as no one is left behind and details are worked out between the players.

Third person role-playing logs will be posted in the six world communities. First person chatting will only happen in character journals and only if your character is outfitted with a communication device that can transcend dimensions.

  • Do I have to use Yuuko to travel/can I bypass Yuuko?

It is possible to bypass Yuuko entirely as long as you have a really good, canon explanation for it and it's ok-ed by the mods. However, don't feel like you have to use Yuuko. The rp isn't so much about her as it is about getting a bunch of characters together and seeing what they do in different worlds. Yuuko's purpose is really more to give characters that wouldn't normally have the ability to leave their home world the rare chance to do so.

  • What are Yuuko's prices like?

Yuuko's prices are anything of equivalent value to your wish. If it costs Yuuko nothing to do it, she'll ask something that means nothing to you in turn. If she has to concentrate and put some effort in, she'll ask you to give up something you like.

If she has to put in the magic required to cross dimensions, she's going to want something substantial for her effort. Often the price is that which is most precious to you. The choice of which dimension you'd like to go to increases the price. The ability to cross dimensions more than once may put it over what a single person can pay, and then you would need important sacrifices from others who want to travel with you to compensate.

The price is also determined by the method you'd like to use. Many people traveling through the same dimension breach only costs Yuuko a single dimension-breach, but a person on their own has to pay for it on their own. Likewise, a device that will send you to another dimension may be paid for and used by a single person, or may be paid for and used by many. Gathering a group makes the price less for everyone involved. Or, in the case of Mokona, the wish might cost more than anyone by themselves can pay.

Mokona was so expensive in Tsubasa because Mokona gave them the ability to travel many, many times and offered a link back to Yuuko. This was not one dimension hop, but several, and required the extra ability to conversationally link to Yuuko at any time. Yuuko and Clow spent a lot of time and magic on the pair, so their price was very high.

If you want to pay for a single dimension hop at a time, you need a way to talk to Yuuko, again. Devices that allow you to communicate with the witch can also be purchased, but the convenience she is offering will cost a similar convenience from you.

Convenience is something Yuuko likes. It is possible that you may offer your services to the witch as payment. She will take your hard work and effort, and when you have paid enough, will grant your wish. Often, this is the choice you take if you do not possess something of adequate significance on you, or if Yuuko wants to play with you for a while.

Keep in mind that the prices Yuuko asks for may be as infinitesimal as that pretty leaf you picked up in the park, but may be as substantial as your soul (Defined as the thing most precious to you, for example: the limiter that makes you safe around other people, your relationship with another person, a cherished 'last-memory-of-your-parents' keepsake.) It all depends on your wish.

  • What's the deal with the interdimensonal communication device (ICD)?

The communication device allows you to talk in-game to other characters who might be in other dimensions (or just have ICDs themselves). The in-game talking will occur within character journals. As far as your character is concerned, you can think of it like a radio device, which may or may not have the capability of accompanying video or text depending on the form of your ICD.

Not all characters might have one of these device so its abilities are limited. However, all ICDs are able to contact Yuuko, as this will be the most common method of passing between worlds.

If your character does not have an ICD, they can be obtained from Yuuko, at a price of course. Its form can be one of your choosing, whether it's a cellphone, a headset, a pen, a watch, Mokona, etc.

If your character cannot afford an ICD from Yuuko, then you will either want to align with someone who has one, or steal it. Whatever your character is up for.

  • What else do I use my character journal for? (Technology levels)

Aside from the ICD, your character journal can be used for local communication as well (that is, for talking with characters within the same dimension). However this local communication will depend on the technology available to you in the dimension you happen to be in.

Charon and Kale do not have the technology available for convenient local communication (ie: No phones; best they have is snail mail).

Elara has the technology for phones, but hardly any use for them. You will only find phones within the presence of important authorities (police, mayor, doctors, etc).

Naiad has the convenience of phones, but only old fashioned ones. Your character, if they are a traveler, wouldn't be able to own a portable phone but they would be able to find one in almost any building they walk into.

Despina and Tarqeq are advanced enough where pay phones, cell phones, and computers can be obtained and/or used. (In Tarqeq's case, all kinds of gadgets could be used for communication).

Also, if your character is a traveler and happens to be carrying with them some sort of technological device, there is a chance it won't work in another dimension. Generally something of equal or lower technology won't work. Of course there can and will be exceptions. Check with the mods if you're unsure about this.

Be advised that it is not required to use your character journal for communication. The mods are much more interested in your participation in the third person logs, but the option is out there for those of you who wish to also interact this way.

  • How does one go about changing dimensions?

Once you and your potential group have had your fill of your dimension and you're ready to leave, unless you have your own means of traveling between worlds (which has to be OK-ed by the mods first), contact Yuuko at her journal w1sh3mistr3ss7. As long as you have adequate compensation, she will reply to you with a link to your next destination. (In game, you can think of it as a portal.)

If you have a destination in mind, just be sure to let the mods know beforehand in either the OOC, e-mail, or AIM . Otherwise, your next world will be chosen at random.

On the other hand, if your character has a specific dimension in mind that they want/need to visit (either to meet up with another group or come to someone's rescue or something), they will have to let Yuuko know in her character journal and pay the added price of jumping to that particular dimension.

  • Who can I apply for?

Anyone from any fandom, whether it's anime, video game, movies, or books. Really, we're not picky (but no OCs, sorry). As long as you can come up with a good in game background and can pay Yuuko's price if you need to, you're golden.

  • How many characters can I have?

4, for starters. As the roleplay grows and you can prove to us you can handle more, that number can easily increase.

Also, no more than 2 characters from the same fandom may be played by a single person. But once again, this rule may change as the roleplay expands.

  • Can I apply as an alternate version of a canon character?

Absolutely. We have 6 different worlds set up right now. That means that technically, we could have 7 of the same character walking around, the 7th being the one that comes from their canon universe. Just realize that your alternate version will be a resident of one of the 6 worlds, and must act within the guidelines set up by the provided world descriptions.

Obviously at this point we want to see more diversity than that, but the option is out there for those of you who had your hearts set on certain characters. (Also at some point, we may open the option of allowing characters from the same canon world but different timelines, but that's only something to keep in mind.)

  • What kinds of liberties can I take with my character's in-game background?

Anything is possible as long as you have good, plausible justification for it. If you ever have any questions about what you can or can't make up or just can't think of a good reason for something, don't hesitate to contact the mods. We'd love to help you.

We want your background not just to set you up but also to explain you. Who are you? Where did you come from? We want it to make sense. You've got to have a reason why your character left their home. You've got to have a reason why your character would have this or that object. If they're ill and suddenly healed, you've got to have a reason for that. Do not assume anything. Do not think details aren't important. They are. They help to understand you. They give you a history to explain to another character and things for Yuuko to know when you've never told anyone. These are the things that make a story good and not just a BS plotline where plot devices come out of left field and useful items are dragged out of nowhere. Every player in the game, and everything about them, is very important. Do your best, and we'll thank you for it.

  • Are there limitations to my character's canon abilities?

None. We are gathering characters from all kinds of dimensions after all. However, there is always the risk that your character's abilities could be taken away as payment for Yuuko should your character have to deal with her. It isn't likely that you'll get the abilities back but that doesn't mean your character can't pick up some new ones in the worlds they travel to~

While we want to avoid restrictions to character's abilities, we also don't want God-modding either. We're hoping players will be responsible with their own powers while also recognizing the abilities of others.

  • What's the policy on magic?

As mentioned above, there will be no limitations to canon characters abilities. However, for those of you wanting to apply as residents or maybe just hoping to expand your canon character's abilities, there are certain dimensions with magic potential to explore and exploit.

Charon, aside from its strange critters wandering around, has no magic hidden in its swampy wilderness.

Despina is almost exactly like our modern world. So there may be people wandering around thinking they can see dead people or into the future, but the most magic you'll find here will likely be in a flashy performance inside one of the casinos.

The people of Elara and Naiad believe there is no such thing as magic in their world or that it is taboo to practice. However, there is latent potential in these dimensions if your character is brave enough to try harnessing it.

Tarqeq has magic potential, but it has long since been ruled out as an ancient art. None of the residents bother with it anymore. Your character is free to see what kind of magic Tarqeq once had, but good luck trying to find information or clues about something so obsolete.

This is only a basic set-up and it can be negotiated if you happen to have a brilliant idea for a particular world to better suit your character. Just talk to the mods. We'd love to hear your ideas. :)

  • If I apply for a resident, can they later become a traveler (or vice versa)?

Of course. It all depends on how your character's interactions go. Just realize that residents who want to travel will have to secure a way to do so, most likely with Yuuko's help.

  • Can my character die?

As long as it’s justifiable and the character's player is in agreement with the decision.

  • Is it possible to pick up characters that have been dropped?

Quite possible. When a character is dropped, the general consensus will be that the character has gone missing, which would be fairly easy to assume given the different dimensions one could get lost in. On the other hand, if you're interested in picking up directly where the last player left off (as long as the game hasn't moved too far along from where the character was dropped), this is possible too.

Characters up for replacement can be found here. When filling out your application, you do not have to write out the canon background and personality, in-game occupation/location, and in-game background unless the character's disappearance needs to be explained or other alterations have been made and discussed with the mods.

  • I still have questions.

Ask away~ You can either post your questions here or e-mail/IM the mods. We'd love to answer any questions.
