Waking in Paradise~

May 01, 2011 00:29

Who: Himura Kenshin (and anyone who wants to run into him after he's left his room?)
What: \o.O/ Waking up and... trying to figure out what's going on!
When: May 1st since it took me that long to write it
Where: His room => castle hallways
Rating: PG? (I will update if that changes)

Kenshin’s eyes snapped open with the clash of swords, his eyes wide, posture stiff, his hand closing tightly on the sheath of the sakabatou, eyes searching rapidly for an enemy that was clearly not there. The dream had felt so real that it took him several seconds to convince himself that it had been a dream. But it was clearly not winter, and he was clearly not in Kyoto, and there wasn’t a trace of either Shinsengumi captains in the room with him.

He let out a low sigh, letting the tenseness work its way out of his shoulders, lifting one hand to pinch at the bridge of his nose. “It’s been a long time… since this one dreamt of those days…,” he muttered to himself, letting his hand fall away from the sword propped against his shoulder, staring out before him absently at the floor. “So why now…”

He remained like that for a long minute before finally shaking his head and moving to rise. There was no point in dwelling on dreams, even if they seemed disturbing, especially seeing as how he had not been dreaming at all for a while and now suddenly to have the Shinsengumi crop up in his subconscious, it was more than a little disconcerting. He placed the sakabatou on his belt, moving to fold up the unused futon before heading to work on breakfast. Really, he wasn’t sure why he kept setting the stupid thing out, he knew he wasn’t going to actually sleep on it… Sheer habit he supposed…

And it was about then… that something didn’t seem right. He had already done this… it wasn’t morning… He straightened, frowning in confusion. No… he clearly remembered leaving the dojo with Kaoru-dono and Yahiko. He’d gone with them to a neighboring dojo that morning.

Hadn’t he?

Kenshin lifted a hand to scratch at the back of his head. Did he dream that as well? He could have sworn… He shook his head again, that look of utter confusion not leaving as he turned on his heel to check on the other occupants of the dojo. This didn’t make sense, the more he thought about he was absolutely positive they had left for that other dojo-

That was a western door.

Why was there a western door in this room? He blinked widely. There was a western door… in a traditional kendo dojo… hinges, doorknob and everything… But more importantly, a western door that had not been there last night. Was he still dreaming after all? He had his doubts before but now this was just getting a little too bizarre. “Oro…?” he turned, glancing around the room again, half expecting to see a fox and a tanuki having tea on the ceiling-but no, everything looked the way it was supposed to look, other than that door. “What is going on here…?” he mumbled, his eyes wanting to swirl in their sockets as his shoulders slumped in confusion.

And then it was back to the door. He moved over to it and just frowned at the knob for a good thirty seconds, before finally reaching forward and opening it. He stuck his head out for just a moment-definitely seeing something that was not the interior of the dojo (‘ororororo…’)-and just closed the door again, standing inside with his hand on the doorknob and his eyes swirling.

Alright. Potential explanation number 1: he was dreaming. That seemed the most obvious… though this did feel awfully real to be a dream.

Potential explanation number 2: he had been abducted and placed in a room that remarkably resembled the room he’d been staying in for weeks for no apparent reason. This… made little sense because who on earth would even want to do that. If it was some sort of enemy, generally enemies only wanted to see him dead, and if they’d gotten the drop on him well enough to move him without him noticing then they could have easily killed him. Furthermore-what sort of moronic captor would leave him armed? (And just for good measure he checked the sakabatou-and yes. His sword was intact.)

Potential explanation number 3: he was drugged and hallucinating. This just brought him right back to the first two points: he didn’t feel drugged… and if anyone had managed to drug him to the point that he didn’t know what was going on then… they could just as easily kill him.

Although…

Kenshin went a little green as the thought went through his head… what had Kaoru-dono put in that meal last night…? He knew the poor girl’s cooking was bad… but… he didn’t think she’d actually managed to poison them…

Well… dreaming, abducted or hallucinating… it made little sense to stay in the room, so steeling himself for whatever he was about to run into in the hall, he opened the door glanced each way down the hall (at least it had remained a hall and not transformed into something else) and exited, closing the door behind him, noting the nameplate ‘Himura Kenshin’ before he started off into the unknown.

[ooc; the link goes to the scene from the anime (3:27-5:46) but this is actually manga!Kenshin so… /o/ he was not in the Kamiya dojo while he was dreaming, he was snoozing at a neighboring dojo while Kaoru was teaching. Parallel journal/action post here]
