It's been a surreal day.
It's strange enough, being a librarian for the first time in years. It's stranger coming into a building full of strangers who know her name.
She acts like it's normal, like she recognises the people around her, like she knows her surroundings. She intuits and bluffs and guesses.
The technology has changed a bit, but she adjusts easily. She makes decisions in her customised office, gives directions to colleagues and directions to patrons, ruthlessly ignores the discomfort and uncertainty, avoids cursing herself for being too proud to simply stay at the apartment.
Sometimes, it's almost like her old life.
Those are the worst moments.
Finally, her work day is over, and she heads toward the front exit, to await a teenage Batman from decades into an alternate future.
