As luck would have it, Guts had stirred only moments previous to the door being unceremoniously kicked down by an unusual warning from his Brand - not the type on the level of a demon, but something certainly similar to one. Luckier still was the fact that the Black Swordsman had taken up the habit - years ago - of sleeping with his sword.

Crouched against the wall with the Dragonslayer over a shoulder, he was on his guard in an instant, bringing himself to his feet and grasping the handle of the massive blade, eyes flashing towards the bed where Ino had been sleeping. His muscles tensed, the familiar necessity of old battle instincts awakening in a second jolting into action. Guts was far too used to coming under attack in a moment's notice.

This wasn't good.

But who the fuck was this? No human, by the looks of him, nor the signals he was getting from the Brand - and what the hell was with the bones on his face? But more telling than both was the psychotic grin on his face.

It just screamed play time ( ... )

Though Ino could be a sound sleeper when she wanted to be, the sound of the door being knocked down definitely woke her up, and she immediately moved to pull a kunai from the pouch she had left on her leg, crouching on the bed.

Unfortunately, she did know him. As someone who had been taught quite a bit about the world of Soul Society and its enemies, it was easy to recognize what he was. Not to mention the familiar sort of spiritual energy ...

She kept a glare fixed on Grimmjow as she moved off the bed carefully. Guts seemed to be able to see him, so it was likely he was in one of those gigai things, right? Though she supposed that would be too convenient. Either way, she couldn't afford to underestimate him.

"I know him," she replied, "but I definitely didn't invite him." She gripped her kunai tighter before continuing. "It's Grimmjow, right? What business does an espada have here?"

Being from a shonen series himself, he wouldn't have bothered giving Ino a second glance if it hadn't been for the fact that she seemed to know who--and more importantly, what he was. She was probably used to it by now, considering women in Naruto have it twenty times worse than the women in Bleach, but alas, his focus shifts from Guts and over toward the blonde currently wielding a knife that, as far as Grimmjow was concerned, might as well have been a plastic spork.

"I'm not interrupting, am I?" Not that he gave a shit one way or another. He didn't seem to pose any immediate threat, what with hands tucked into the pockets of his hakama, but that probably didn't matter the once he began advancing toward Ino.

"You Guts?"

The reaction from the Brand coupled with Ino's words behind him were enough to warn him that this man was not as stupid as he looked; most men wouldn't walk into a room with Guts wielding his sword - not while smiling, that was for sure. So, either he was extremely powerful, or had a trick up his sleeve.

That, or he really was a retard.

One way or another, Guts didn't particularly care to find out firsthand.

As Grimmjow approached Ino, Guts took a small step forward to get in his way and bar his path. The house wasn't exactly large, so it wasn't too big a problem to get between them.

"I'm Guts," he said. "No offense, but you aren't exactly my type, so if this is a personal call, I'm not interested."

Ino took a very short moment while Guts stepped in front of her to pick up another of her packs on the floor and fastened it to her leg, making sure to have an explosive tag on hand. After all, no matter how powerful this guy was, an explosion in his face would have to at least distract him long enough to do something else.

Either way, they'd probably have to find a new house ...

She made no move to push Guts out of the way, she simply stepped to the side, turned slightly so she could still see Grimmjow. She knew he could do the quick step thing the shinigami could do, so it would be a good idea to watch Guts' back.
