Out of curiosity, Sasuke had returned to his room after a week of not showing up to confirm if Naruto had left or not, which he hadn’t, apparently. As he opened the door, he found himself not at all surprised as he glanced across the room to spot Naruto watering the tomato plant he had given to him as a gift months ago. It took him a moment to scan the room, noticing that it was clean, no mess, and that none of Naruto’s things laid anywhere. Sasuke quickly put two and two together, guessing that Naruto had returned to his room, but still paid this room a visit every once in a while. He paid no mind to it as he walked into the room casually, as if Naruto’s presence didn’t affect him at all, informing him that he had only returned for a book he had forgotten, an excuse, but one that Naruto would believe.

After careful consideration, Sasuke decided it wouldn’t be a problem to invite the boy to train with him, smoothly, of course, as if it wasn’t out of place to ask him then and there. It wouldn’t solve anything; for Naruto would still mope afterwards, but at least they could both get their fix of each other. It had been more difficult to ignore any thoughts of Naruto, especially when he would see his writing in the journals or when he would see him passing by in the castle on the rare occasion. Naruto was his biggest weakness for a reason, and Sasuke knew it would be difficult to come by. He wanted one of them to leave Paradisa; at least then, he wouldn’t have to deal with continuously being haunted by him.

Sasuke had made the mistake of letting what they had between them come this far, to the point where he actually considered going back home once he had the chance. Why he made that mistake? Simple. Naruto. The power Naruto had over him angered him and frightened him at the same time. Why was it that someone so foolish, so insignificant made such a big impact on his life? Was it the feeling of acceptance that somehow drew him toward the other boy? Why was that feeling just as strong, or even stronger, than his drive, his ambition to kill Itachi? Sasuke could get that sort of feeling from anyone, but for some reason, Naruto wasn’t just anyone. It was true that he was nothing special, but he was special to Sasuke. It was dangerous to let that feeling linger, so he had to kill it off. He repeatedly reminded himself that revenge was most important in his life. There was a void in his life that Naruto simply could not fill; he had to fill that void himself, and he thought-no-knew that the answer was to kill Itachi. No matter how much love he was given, it would never be enough to fill that void, in fact, it only made bigger.

He had filled the hole in Naruto’s life, if only for a brief period of time, but Naruto still had the chance to feel complete. Sasuke knew just how important he was to Naruto; how couldn’t he when Naruto had felt the obligation to constantly remind him of that very fact? Naruto was happy and Sasuke had to admit, he had come pretty damn close to being happy, as well, but something would always be missing as long as Itachi was living and in his reach. There would always be an imbalance between them; Naruto would be happy and complete and Sasuke would be happy and incomplete. It strained their friendship and they would be unhealthy for one another as long as that imbalance remained, especially with Sasuke’s jealousy issues.
