Warnings: Intense, brain destroying cuteness

Lana hadn't really been...dressed when she'd noticed Kadaj's tearstained entry. She threw on a layered t-shirt, jeans and socks on, Made sure her hair wasn't flying in every direction then used the railing to slide down the stairs. She was getting a lot better at it. She could manage to slide down an entire section of stairs without falling on her face. She was glad she didn't have far to go to get to kadaj's room. She padded on her socks-only feet to his door and tapped on it softly.

Kadaj had shredded up his journal several times, had stabbed it, and shredded it again. It was still intact after all that but he felt a little better after destroying it a few times. He glanced at the door. After making sure to clear his cheeks of any evidence of just how upset he really was, Kadaj opened the door for her. She would find that his room had changed slightly again, this time with the addition of a picture of her resting near his bed. The rest of the pictures were in the bag. Otherwise, everything was exactly the same.

Lana glanced up at him. As if wiping away tears made it impossible to tell someone had been crying. Lana had a lot of trouble imagining Kadaj that upset, even if he did act innocent he was still...really strong? Sturdy? She wasn't exactly sure how to describe it, even to herself but she just didn't imagine he was usually a crier like Loz was. Without a word she entered the room and shut the door behind her. She then took his hand then after a moment of looking around led him over to his rather...unwelcoming couch. A couch must have come standard in these rooms or she didn't imagine there would be one. She sat down on it then tugged on his hand for him to do the same.

Well, he was glad she didn't point it out. That just showed how smart she was. Just as he thought, having her around made him feel a bit calmer and less upset. He allowed her to take him over to the couch. Quietly he sat down beside her, closing his gloved hand around hers. "Lana... you know I'm not upset with you, yes?" he asked after a comfortable pause. He wanted to be sure she understood he didn't blame her for the mess with Yazoo. "I am... very grateful for everything yo do for me."

Lana set her other hand gently on top of the hand she was holding and tilted her head slightly. She smiled softly at him and nodded, "Of course, I know you're not upset with me, Kadaj." She knew that part of this was about Yazoo not remembering his brothers but it seemed like there must be something more to make Kadaj CRY. She pondered how to word her next question so it didn't seem either intrusive or embarrass him at all. "Do you....want to talk about what IS upsetting you, though?"

There were many things upsetting him. He still felt upset knowing Loz forgot Mother, and now Yazoo... "Yazoo has forgotten us, and I'm worried he won't listen to me because he doesn't remember me as his brother. And then, someone wrote in the journal that they killed Father... I know nothing about Father but it is still upsetting to find out he has died." He took a deep breath, and exhaled slowly. "I could've found out about Father before," he went on, a bit bitterly, "but I lost again."

Lana looked startled. Who had said that they killed his father? She wasn't sure she wanted to know. There was no use in getting herself all riled up and angry at someone when she could do nothing about the situation. Instead she released his hand and pulled herself higher onto the couch, curling her legs underneath her. She leaned up and wrapped her arms around Kadaj. She was pretty sure he'd never gotten a comforting hug, only a happy hug, so she didn't know if he'd know what to do with it but to teach him that a hug can be nice when you're sad...well there was no time like the present.

He blinked a little. A hug was not unknown to him, but it still came as a surprise. Kadaj didn't know what he should do. He blinked, glancing up to look at Lana. Maybe he didn't need to do anything. His eyes lowered, and then closed. "Thank you," he murmured.

Lana didn't say a 'you're welcome' in return, it seemed strange and formal to do so so she just gave him a gentle squeeze before she released him partially. She sat back a bit with one arm still over his shoulder and smoothed his hair with a hand, noticing again that it had a very nice feel to it then set that hand on his other shoulder. "Kadaj, it's okay to be upset about that kind of thing, you know. It's okay to be sad about it. I was sad when my father died too. I never had a brother to forget me but...it's never a good thing when bad things happen to your family."

Lana was very good at comforting him. He noticed that even when they first met. She was good at a great many things. He didn't even seem to mind that she was touching his hair. He kind of liked it. "I was more angry than sad at first," Kadaj told her. Mostly at the castle for constantly doing mean things. "I think I feel sadness because I don't know what to do." What could he do, though? Other than continually reminding Loz about Mother, and trying to get control of Yazoo... neither of which sounded like pleasant things to do. Then there was Mother herself, which brought on more upsetting thoughts.

Lana wilted slightly at the mention of being sad because he didn't know what to do. Did she ever understand THAT sentiment! She let one of her hands fall to her lap and the other slid down his arm to rest partially in her lap and partially curled underneath his arm. "Yeah..I understand that's.....well it's really frustrating. There's only so much we can do when it's the castle that appears to be against us." She sighed and shook her head, "I guess we just have to try and make the best of a bad situation, as upsetting as that is..."

Make the best of a bad situation... Good advice. There again she demonstrated just how she managed to say the right words. Kadaj bobbed his head in agreement, silently wondering how she always managed it. It was probably a gift of hers, like his was to be calm and tactical in opposition to his brothers. "The situation feels a little better already," he said quietly. "I don't know how I could do these things without you around, Lana. You help me out so much." He lifted his hand, giving her cheek a fond but brief brush of his fingers.

Lana looked a little surprised when he reached up at and touched her cheek, but not unpleasantly so. She was always a little surprise when he showed physical affection but he'd never done so in a manner that she hadn't...taught him about. The touch had seemed to be purely instinctual unless someone else was teaching Kadaj gestures of affection but somehow she couldn't really imagine that happening too regularly. She blushed a little and smiled at him. "I'm sure you would do fine, Kadaj. You're a very capable person, you know."

True, he was capable, but that was more in battle situations. These more emotional-type situations were a bit more puzzling to him. He never really had to deal with much of that before now. It had always been finding his Mother to complete the Reunion, and kill who would try to stop him. Kadaj still wanted to find her, of course, but without Jenova cells he wasn't as driven to it. He found himself focusing on other things instead, like taking care of his brothers and trying to do nice things for Lana. "Your confidence in me is appreciated," he said to her. "But I am still glad you are my friend."

Lana smiled at him a little more and tilted her head, "I'm really, very glad you're my friend too, Kadaj." And it was true. She was actually surprised with herself how true it was. Lana had other friends that she saw more and did a lot more things with but Kadaj had a feeling of stability and loyalty to him. Like it would take an act of god to get him to purposefully betray her, leave her, or do anything to purposely hurt her in any way. He had a sort of feeling of permanence that was comforting to her. Not to mention it was terribly enjoyable to watch him learn. He was already so much more informed than he had been when she'd first met him. It was fascinating to witness. She found herself feeling proud of him. She also felt herself wanting to express that sentiment, "And..I'm proud to be yours." She said after a moment passed allowing all of those things to run through her head.

Kadaj felt his lips move into a smile. "You always say the right things to make me feel good inside," he commented. It was the truth. She had some magical power or something. Saying she was 'proud' was just what Kadaj needed to hear. For this new kindness she needed something really really special. Kadaj thought about it, remembering all the things she and Touya told Kadaj about friendship and affection. "I will repay you for this," he announced out loud. "Not because I feel I should, but because you are always helping me. I will think of something very good to do for you. Until then, will a hug be all right?" Kadaj spoke in a way that told Lana he was going to do something nice for her whether she wanted him to or not.

Lana smiled very brightly at him, blushing again a little bit. He was always flattering her. It was nice but she just wasn't sure how else to deal with it than to blush and smile a little dumbly. She laughed a little at his no-nonsense tone and decided that any opposition to the idea of him doing something 'especially' nice for her would be met with a brick wall so she just opened her arms and said cheerfully, "Hugs are ALWAYS, alright."

Kadaj smiled back at her. He thought to ask, anyway. Last time he had caught her by surprise and her reaction had confused him. Kadaj moved his arms around the girl in the same gentle way as the last time. Even without Jenova in him he was still rather strong and he didn't want to hurt her. He definitely didn't feel upset anymore. Lana was a great cure for unhappiness, apparently. "Lana, if you ever feel upset or unhappy, I hope you will let me make it better. I worry about you when you seem unhappy, and... I want to help like you help me." Kadaj knew he wasn't as good at his as she was, but he still wanted to try.

Lana wrapped her arms around his neck and smiled. She noticed again that she liked the way he smelled as she set her cheek against his shoulder. She emitted a very small giggle at his words but it was less a sound of amusement and more a sound of happiness. "Alright, Kadaj. The very next time I'm upset you're the first person I'll come to, I promise." She found it so fascinating that a person who had to concentrate to hug her without harming her because of his strength, could be so...gentle. She wondered if Kadaj was this kind to everyone.

It was happening again. That weird not-unpleasant feeling that he still hadn't been able to identify. And he'd tried, getting help from the ghosts to look through medical boks in the library. Kadaj had only learned he wasn't sick, which didn't really help much. "That is... good," he said in response to her words. He didn't mind her closeness, but... she really was rather close. "I, ah, I finished looking at the pictures you gave me," he told her. Yes, that was a good diversion. "They are all very nice."

Lana released him from the hug at the subject change since it would have been rather weird to keep hanging on when they were talking about something that didn't really require any hugging at all. but sat back in a way that she was still squashed up rather comfortably next to him, "Oh did you? Which ones did you decide to keep?"

Kadaj moved from the couch to show her. He had chosen only one, not wanting to be selfish. He picked up the picture carefully and showed it to her. It was one of just Lana, her hair half down her back and half over her shoulder, sitting and smiling at the camera. "It was difficult to choose," Kadaj explained.

Lana looked curiously at the picture and smiled at it. It was a really recent picture. The most recent in the entire bunch actually. Lex had taken it when she was sitting on the railing of the balcony despite her protests. He'd thought it had turned out really well and had a copy of it framed. She smiled up at Kadaj, "I have a friend back home who really liked this picture too. I'm glad you like it." She then laughed, "You didn't have to choose just one, though Kadaj. I don't really need pictures of myself after all. I can just look in the mirror for that." She winked at him.

Someone else liked it too? Kadaj frowned a little. "I don't need to have many pictures," he said quietly. Though truthfully he'd keep all the ones of her if he was allowed. If she didn't mind, well... Kadaj easily found about a dozen others he had liked. "These will be enough." Lana was the only person in each photo. Her horse was in several, but that didn't count.

Lana smiled at him, torn between embarrassment and finding it cute that he'd immediately known which pictures he wanted to keep. She smiled again. Donatello was in quite few of the photos. She wondered what it was like to see a horse for the first time, even in a picture, when one didn't know what it was. "I wish I had a way to get a picture of you but my camera hasn't showed up here yet...and even if it did my printer hasn't showed up either." She frowned then looked suddenly surprised. "OH! Kadaj I have a surprise for you!" She lept up "I'll be RIGHT BACK!" she exclaimed and without warning scurried out of the room at top speed.

Kadaj blinked. She ran away rather quickly. He hoped his choice of pictures hadn't upset her in some way. Frowning slightly, Kadaj sat patiently hoping she would come back.

Come back Lana did, a startlingly short amount of time later. She came racing up and plopped back down on the couch next to him. Out from behind her back she pulled a sleek, black iPod. Hers was white with patterns custom painted across it so it clearly wasn't hers. The castle had finally given her a second one. And it had all the music that hers had on it...well the iPods seemed to have every song on the face of the planet. Whenever she looked for one she seemed to be able to find it. It must have been something about Paradisa. In any case she was delighted, she'd been wanting to give Kadaj an iPod for what seemed like forever, "This is for you."

He watched her expectantly, tilting his head to one side. He didn't know what she was doing with someone else's iPod at first. But then Lana told him it was for him. "Oh." His face felt hot as he carefully took the device from her hand. "Thank you very much." It was black and that seemed to please him. Yet another nice thing she'd done for him. He'd have to wish extra hard for his motorbike to show up now. Well, he was definitely cheered up now!

Lana actually bounced slightly, "I hope you like it, I was so excited when it showed up! I'd been wanting one for you since you returned mine." He was blushing when he took it from her and she took that as a good sign. It was fun to make Kadaj blush because usually it meant she'd done something that made him extra happy or feel really special and she liked doing that. Especially since no one had ever really done it before. She was glad that the one that had showed up had been black. It really seemed to match Kadaj. Sleek and dark and kind of mysteriously Sexy attractive.

He turned the device over in his hands, not knowing what else to say. He already thanked her, and saying it again seemed unnecessary. He wished he could do something for her right then, but he didn't have anything. There were no pictures of himself to give and his motorbike hadn't shown up yet. "I don't have anything for you," he said apologetically. There was good reason for him not having something, but he still wished he could give her something.

Lana smiled and shook her head at him. She gave a little laugh before saying, "Well that doesn't matter, Kadaj. I don't give you things because I want anything in return. I give them to you because it's fun to make you smile. I don't need anything else, that's really enough for me." She ignored how cheesy what she'd just said sounded. It was true! She was just being honest, she couldn't really help it if there was a big fat chunk of cheese in the middle of her honesty. It WAS incredibly nice to make Kadaj smile. Genuinely, actually smile with genuine, actual happiness. It was almost intoxicating for some reason. Maybe just because she knew he didn't get the opportunity that often.

But that was just how Kadaj felt. He wanted to do nice things to make Lana happy. But he did also feel that he couldn't keep taking so much without giving something back. It didn't seem fair. Maybe he could surprise her. Yes, that was a good idea. He gave her a smile, because he felt happy and she said she liked seeing it. "If that pleases you then I am glad. Thank you again for stopping by, I am all right for real this time. Next time we will do fun things again, yes?"

Lana beamed when he smiled at her. She then nodded at his question and stood up, feeling quite pleased, herself. He'd been crying earlier and he seemed genuinely happy now. She was definitely pleased about that. She picked up the bag of pictures sans the ones he'd chosen, "We will definitely do fun things again soon." She paused for a moment and thought. She should bake today. She was feeling good and her baking always turned out better when she was in a good mood. She waved at Kadaj and smiled, "I'll see you again soon, okay? Enjoy your new iPod!" She grinned then disappeared out the door to go to the kitchen.
