Comparing different magic systems, studying languages, looking for common themes in the overall mythologies of worlds similar to my own, trying to guess peoples' special abilities, taking care of my pet, shopping in town, analyzing the architecture of the castle, trying to discover the true nature of this place, and planning an expedition to see what lies beyond the mountains.
