Waking Up

[At first there's just the rustle of bedding, following by a distinct thud as a journal is knocked off the nightstand and lands open-ended on the floor. Then there's a quiet hum -- that warm, wakeful sound that always seems to come out of a body after a good bit of sleep. It elongates as Fred does the same, stretching out and then curling to one ( Read more... )

I trust you slept well? It seems the castle decided you needed some rest, if the rumors I heard are true.

Well, I slept? I'm not really sure how to quantify it past that.

[A pause]

There were rumors?

Well, you don't sound any worse for the rest, so I'll take that as you sleeping well.

Not exactly. I hear things, you know. Things I'm not always exactly paying attention to. I'd heard you fell asleep under some sort of mysterious circumstances. Miss Harmony, for her part, was rather worried about you.

[Miss Harmony. Fred makes a note to tell her friend about that]

I'd say I was really tired, but we all know it's more than just that.

Yes indeed. I've heard one of my students, Jonothan, was put on a similar sort of bedrest months ago. One can't help but wonder what the castle hopes to get out of randomly rendering us unconscious, beyond the inconvenience, anyway.

[Fred's still got some theories about energy, but nothing she's up to rambling about now. One day she'll figure out a way to test it]

How long was he asleep?

[Charles would be interested in that, psychically monitoring the unconscious to see what happens.]

Approximately two weeks, as I read it. I found mention of it in the journal, after you all resolved that rash of kidnappings.

..I think you mean Slenderman.

Yes indeed. Forgive me for saying, but I almost wish I could have been present for that.

[Fred considers that]

Is there a particular reason why?

Curiosity, mainly. It's not often one is able to examine a physical manifestation of something like fear, and witness a group of people such as we find here defeating that fear.

That, and I find the fact that it somehow had a world all it's own hidden literally under everyone's noses fascinating.

[She can't help but remember the terror that'd surrounded the castle at the time. Her own fear that Wesley would do something foolish in an attempt to put a stop to it. The kidnapped children had tugged sharply at old hurts]

Stay here long enough, I imagine you'll encounter something like it sooner rather than later.
