Guess I haven't really introduced myself properly yet... how should I say this...

I'm Ryotaro Dojima, a... detective with the Inaba PD. --Inaba, Japan.

From the sound of it some of you have been looking after my daughter, Nanako? [a bit of an awkward pause, but then his voice is filled to the brim with sincere warmth:] I can't really thank you ( Read more... )

Nanako's dad, huh? She's talked about you. She's a good kid.

Takes after her mother. [It's impossible for Dojima to talk about his daughter without a certain warmth in his voice. If asked he would never admit to it, but the fastest way to butter Dojima up was to pay his daughter compliments.]

Hmm-- trying to get a hang of how this thing works. Could I ask who's speaking?

She must be an amazing woman, then.

I'm Special Agent Seeley Booth, FBI.

[He debates just letting it drop, but--]

Was an amazing woman. [--he's been getting used to letting people know as quickly as possible. Less trouble in the long run. It's not as sore a spot as it once was, though.]

FBI, huh? What do you make of all this? Nanako's a great kid, but... well, guess you can't blame me for wanting to take her testimony with a grain of salt.

[a pause, and his tone turns serious] I'm sorry for your loss.

[he gives a small sigh, something between resignation and exasperation] This idea of this place is pretty much enough to lock anyone away in a looney bin for ten lifetimes, but it's real enough. Damned if I know how.

My partner's been testing as much as possible, working in the lab trying to make sense of it. Which doesn't work, but it's enough to get the sense that we're not dreaming.
