[ James exits Room 1613 of the Impetus Tower, finding it absolutely empty. There was no name plate on the room, so James felt that perhaps while the rooms wait for residents to arrive they would turn into useful things like janitor closets (although, James didn't think of it in terms like that - he suspected a broom closet or Filch's office) - and was disappointed when no brooms were to be found.
He's been looking for a few brooms all morning. He wants them so he can see if he can charm them to fly like the brooms back home - perhaps recreate a Cleansweep that has finer straw or a Nimbus that feels better in the hands - so he can teach Sakura how to fly. And he misses flying himself.
He'd wish for his broom back home, but what happens if life isn't on pause? He hopes it is. Deep in his heart he is hoping it is. But if it wasn't, he didn't want to take his broom away from where he's hidden it at Godric's Hollow. That was for his children - his future ones, for his recollection of Harry was nowhere to be found.
And, besides, where's the fun in wishing?
