32 - Mixed Messages - 32

[Before she goes out for the day, Kaylee leaves Zoe a note on the kitchen table. It's short, and quickly scrawled. "Going into town. Be back for dinner."
It's signed with a smiley face]

[Kaylee and Ray had made good headway, checking out potential work sites at the end of last month, but they hadn't been able to cover much ground before it had been late and both had been tired. Kaylee's figuring on another long day, but this time she's planned ahead. She's driven the Mule to save her feet, and she's stopping periodically to check spaces and the cost of rent.
Passing by an encouraging looking window, she pulls the Mule off of the main road and into a nearby alley to keep it out of the way of passing traffic.]

[later that evening, the Mule is all that's left, sitting where she'd parked in an alley beside an empty building. It's out of the way of the main traffic, which makes it partially out of sight, but it's definitely recognizable]
