THE PASS tidalsurge June 19 2011, 18:33:30 UTC
[ As you leave the cursed island behind, the sun dips down below the horizon, and you have entered the open sea. Markers, old and rusted but still doing their job, dot the water in front of you, providing a clear course for your ship to pass on through. It winds and turns a little, but you have some leeway to get your bearings on that wheel, captain. ]

[ Curiously, the path seems to be leading you toward another island, a much, much smaller one that's basically a mountaintop poking out from the water. It's marked on your chart with two simple words: Guns Ready! ]

[ The ship comes close to the little island, and the reason why you were warned to be ready becomes very clear. Screeching sounds from somewhere atop the isle, and just moments later, around 30 man-sized, winged shapes appear and fall into a dive, right at you. You might have some time to fire off a few shots, maybe even blow a couple out of the sky if your aim is terrific, but most of them are going to reach the ship: harpies, big and ugly, and with a smell beyond ( ... )

[What in the-- Experience on a ship pays out. She yells out the order.]

Bring her about! Ready the cannons!

[Well, someone found herself brandishing a cutlass and was supremely intent on attempting to take on some creatures head-on...

But oh man oh man oh man how many times does someone actually get to fire an actual cannon on an actual pirate ship?

Being ordered around doesn't seem to bother her and she'll just... point a cannon straight at some harpy! ::::D]

[Trying to hit rapidly-moving targets with a cannon? Really? Well, it's worth a shot. Aim for the greater mass and see what happens!]

FREEDOM? tidalsurge June 19 2011, 20:01:54 UTC
[ Wow, that was a bit messed up. As you pull far enough away from the island, one of the remaining harpies screech, and the rest of them quickly follow suit. They'd screeched and screamed enough during the fighting, but it always seemed angry. Not this time: something's got'em spooked. A look at your chart might answer that question: judging from how big the island is to scale on that chart, you're rapidly approaching something marked with just a skull. ]

[ Take a small breather and get ready. The real challenge is just ahead. ]

[Neal did not like that last end of the trip. Of course he winds up on the ship with the terror and the danger. but he's got a sword, and he plans on using it the next time something bad comes around.

he's just going to ... sit down by the mast and catch his breath now]

[Yes, random stranger. Just sit there while a young woman, covered in and stinking of that God-awful blood, puts her back to the mast and starts desperately rubbing against it. A close look will show red bumps plainly visible on her skin, but Amelia doesn't seem to care what anyone thinks.

She's itching too much right now.]

[Neal was going to notice! ... in a minute. He hears the motion of someone rubbing against the mast next to him, and looks up]

Well. That was fun.

THE SEA QUEEN tidalsurge June 19 2011, 20:51:31 UTC
[ You can try to avoid the skull on the charts, but your only other choice is to run your ship aground on the reef and surely perish. The isle of harpies shrinks away behind you as you come up to this next danger, but there's nothing you can see but open sea ahead of you. Maybe, whatever this threat was, it's gone now? Perhaps you're free to move on? ]

[ Ha, you wish. ]

[ Those of you with astute vision might see a dark spot appear in the water off to port, only a couple hundred feet away from where the markers end and the reef will trouble you no longer. The spot only grows darker, right up until the ocean water begins to churn, and up from the depths emerges a nightmare. It starts as a woman, nude and perfectly-formed, but where her waist ends the monstrous begins: six enormous wolf heads ring her body, all with baleful red eyes, all snarling and snapping toward your ship. She continues to rise, and beneath the heads, a mound of innumerable tree trunk-thick red tentacles writhe ( ... )

[Daine sees the spot, and she shifts her eyes to those of an eagle to see better. When the woman begins to emerge, her eyes widen, but as the wolf heads come, she figures it's time to call the alarm.]

All hands to port! It's not over yet!!

[He notices her eyes change, but doesn't stare for long once that monster rears up.]

You gotta be kiddin' me.

[She's grabbing her bow and quiver again, but it probably won't do much good.]

THE ESCAPE! tidalsurge June 19 2011, 22:57:06 UTC
[ With her tentacles scored and beaten and no food to show for it, you manage to slip far enough away that the Sea Queen cannot reach you, and you're home free! The markers end, and now it's nothing but the pure, open sea ahead of you. The map warns you that going off the planned route is surely dangerous, but nothing more lies in your way from here to the next island in your path. ]

[ Well done, pirates! Celebrate your victory, head below for some well-earned rests, or maybe do a little bragging on your journals to those guys that have it so easy! It's all up to you! ]

[ this icon would be appropriate if there were showers on the ship :x

he's just going to be idly evaluating whatever damage there is, while missing apollo, vaguely. he would always offer to scrub the blood off of midnighter after battles like this. hng ]

[ he looks over his shoulder, and sees this kid. it reminds him of how many of them were actually in the fray, and he can't help but be annoyed that, whoever the powers that be are, they'd put kids in this situation ]

I'm peachy. You?
