EDGE OF THE FOREST

[SPIDERS* POST]
[The Eldritch Greenwood is exactly where the spiderlings promised it would be.

The woods are lovely, dark and deep... but perhaps, lovely only on a surface level. From the edge of the forest it looks to be your standard deciduous forest, but it has that funny quality where the topmost leaves seem to weave together to block out all light, even at the peak of day.

The webs seem to all cluster towards this direction. It's getting darker, and deeper, and there are spiders and their webs every which way you look. Curiously enough, there are arrows weaved into the webs pointing into the forest. .... You might want a flashlight. Except you can't have it in the dead zone, so ha ha!

A short way into the forest, no more than ten or twenty yards, is a large orchard area. Clusters of fruits, each the size of a human head, hang from the mid-tier branches of the trees -- odd fruits with pink insides that taste like some strange strawberry and banana hybrid, covered by a skin of white peach-fuzz. They have an energizing quality to them. The spiders roam this area frequently.

A hundred yards in, the swamp starts, flooding the trees and the underbrush, and continues on further than the eye can see. Funny, too, that the bottom of the swamp seems to glow, filtering a greenish light up through the water, making shadows stretch up and beyond. This, it would seem, is the only source of light.

Abandoned at the edge of the swamp is a fleet of small canoes, seemingly carved from the same trees in the area, but fitted with modern (although rusting) steel brackets and seats.

And last but not least, there are thousands of tiny spiderwebs, clustered everywhere, and a thousand little spiderling voices, singing:

Clever spider spins a thread
To make a trap we call a web.
Clever spider knows that she
Will have some insects with her tea.
