I think I'll comment on everyone for once because the fields are so small.
Pairs
Peng and Jin. Still love their program and his facial expressions. Absolutely priceless. They were really, really good and scored slightly more than 70 points.
Tarasova and Morozov. I'm not sure I remember those costumes, but the way I'm rushing through the competitions this season, that may not say much. They were outstanding and scored a new PB!
Duhamel and Radford. Hand down on the 3Lz and a massive splat by her on the 3ATh attempt. It clearly couldn't count as a 3A. Tarasova and Morozov even beat them in PCS.
Zabiiako and Enbert. As expected, the substitutes posed no threat.
Seguin and Bilodeau. He fell on the jump, she fell on the throw. Last place.
Yu and Zhang. I love their elegant skating and how happy he was after their clean performance.
Standings after SP:
1 Evgenia TARASOVA / Vladimir MOROZOV
2 Xiaoyu YU / Hao ZHANG
3 Meagan DUHAMEL / Eric RADFORD
4 Cheng PENG / Yang JIN
5 Natalia ZABIIAKO / Alexander ENBERT
6 Julianne SEGUIN / Charlie BILODEAU
A lot can happen here, and I kinda like the prospect of that. :0)
Men
Javier Fernandez. It takes someone like him to mess up the landing of the 4S (how on earth did he not fall on his butt?) and of the 3A (that must have counted as a fall) and still score over 91 points.
Patrick Chan. Was excellent. The Beatles suit him so well. I did find myself thinking about all those crazy skaters who put 2 quads in the SP nowadays. It takes someone as him to include the 3Lz and get THIS close to scoring 100 points.
Shoma Uno. The poor kid had an awful fall on his second quad and could hardly get to the K&C. I wonder if we'll see him in the free skate ... :'0(
Nathan Chen. Also fell on his second quad attempt. He didn't keep his initial credits, but I'm currently too lazy to look into the protocols.
Adam Rippon. Haha, now his back is partially see-through! :0P And Marseille can scream, too. Unfortunately his quadless program didn't stand a chance.
Yuzuru Hanyu. A pretty clean quad loop in competition! He's getting there, he's getting there! (ETA: I somehow missed how much better the 4Lo was in the FS at NHK. Sorry about that.) Needless to say, he nailed the whole performance - great interactions between him and the crowd.
Standings after SP:
1 Yuzuru HANYU
2 Patrick CHAN
3 Javier FERNANDEZ
4 Shoma UNO
5 Nathan CHEN
6 Adam RIPPON
Things are looking good for Yuzuru again.
Ice dance
Chock and Bates. She fell. Will hurt them. Big time.
Virtue and Moir. Just exquisite and another WORLD RECORD, BABY! First SD score over 80 points ever!
Papadakis and Cizeron. Quite good, but not even an SB.
Bobrova and Soloviev. Solid, but nowhere near breathtaking.
Shibutanis. I loved it, they totally got the moves. I thought they'd place behind the French, but they sit in 2nd place! Well, just by .11 points, but still.
Hubbell and Donohue. Even though the figures don't tell, I would have suspected them to finish last at this competition. They were quite lucky for Chock and Bates.
Standings after SD:
1 Tessa VIRTUE / Scott MOIR
2 Maia SHIBUTANI / Alex SHIBUTANI
3 Gabriella PAPADAKIS / Guillaume CIZERON
4 Ekaterina BOBROVA / Dmitri SOLOVIEV
5 Madison HUBBELL / Zachary DONOHUE
6 Madison CHOCK / Evan BATES
I'm very curious how many points Papadakis and Cizeron will make up this time. I'd definitely like to see these three teams on the podium.
Ladies
Satoko Miyahara. That was a very strng performance. That's all I can say.
Kaetlyn Osmond. I love her confidence and everything about this program. She just nails everything from top to bottom. I'm so happy to see her around and basically be a surprise because nobody has counted her in. :0)
Maria Sotskova. She must have gotten downgrades because it sure looked like she delivered. By all means, she's looking really well for this being her first season as a senior.
Anna Pogorilaya. She did not slay. In fact, she nearly fell before her program even started. I hope this doesn't mean that insecurities are crawling up on her again.
Elena Radionova. She did look a bit scratchy today, I have to admit that. It's still odd to see someone like her with that quite wonderful Porgy & Bess program sit in 5th place.
Evgenia Medvedeva. YouTube spoiled it again by announcing her new world record. Alright, so I myself said it would happen sooner or later this season, so her first place here ATM and the score don't really come as a surprise. She was amazing, and I still love the playful parts in this routine.
Standings after SP:
1 Evgenia MEDVEDEVA
2 Kaetlyn OSMOND
3 Satoko MIYAHARA
4 Anna POGORILAYA
5 Elena RADIONOVA
6 Maria SOTSKOVA
It's still pretty close between 2nd and 4th place.
