After having purchased the tickets in April
spellingwitch and I saw Equus last night. She'd seen it September, but I had not been at that performance. Well I've been slightly spoiled for this play after reading and seeing various things about it, so I wasn't terribly shocked by anything, but it was still a very intense play with disturbing and sad aspects to it.
The cast was excellent and totally on their game last night, even with a couple of hoarse voices, which did not detract from the performance at all. It was neat to see people from two different fandoms I'm interested in. Richard Griffiths and Daniel Radcliffe were both excellent. They handled the humorous bits so well and the dramatic stuff was just amazing, especially from young Dan. I'm pretty confident in his abilities for the next HP movie for sure. He played a distinctly different character here, and it wasn't just because of the script either. I also understand why Richard Griffiths won a Tony a couple of years back.
Kate Mulgrew was also in the play, and she's another one with great stage presence. Supposedly she sort of bowed to my brother because she saw him standing up all alone in his section. My brother and his friend came too, but they payed far less than we did from a discount ticket place. Bummer for us. They were only a couple of rows behind us and to our left. We had the nice leg room and no people in the way from our nice front row Mezz seats, though. :)
It was a wonderfully staged play, with suitably eerie atmosphere, with the lighting and sound to round out the excellent acting and script.
And dude, I do not know how those horse guys do all of the choreographed stuff on those hoof things. It all looks so dangerous.
It was all thumbs up from the four of us. I hope they get some Tony nominations.
The madness was at the Stage Door though. There is no way to get near the front unless you are seated right by the doors. We're talking about trying to go just to stand out there for an autograph before the show lets out. I hope we can swing that. I'd like to get some autographs on my Playbill, even if I can't get something HP signed. I'll post some pictures if I got anything that is remotely good.
Just a few that were OK...
The billboard above the Broadhurst...
The mob outside...
Richard Griffiths signing...
A very blurry Dan signing...
And the Majestic... that's me basically wanting to see Phantom again... It's been a long time...
In other news it was Charlie's birthday today. He turned four. I cannot believe he's four years old!! He got a pretty haircut yesterday too, so he was especially huggable today. I indulged him with table food today. I hope I don't regret it tomorrow, but it was his birthday. I had to give in. I have to take some pictures of him tomorrow because he really does look exceptionally cute.
Since it was Charlie's birthday that also means (amusingly enough) that it was Professor Snape's birthday also. LOL. We had fun over at the CoS message board talking to his mod controlled character. He was very talkative today. Too funny. :)
Stargate Atlantis also aired for the last time today. I'm still miffed that this show was cancelled. I don't know what the whole deal is behind the cancellation. I know there is some other Stargate thing coming out. I hope they are involved in it. I liked this show. :( The finally was pretty good, especially for them having practically no notice. They managed to fit in a lot of characters and it felt like a finale. I just wish it was two hours. It would have felt less rushed. I also don't know how I feel about Atlantis being on Earth now. Somehow I don't think that those in charge would want to send it back to the Pegasus galaxy now that they have this massively powerful thing on the planet, even if it isn't running at full power... Oh well. Good bye SGA it was fun to watch you in HD these past few days thanks to TWC finally getting with the program and giving us SciFi in HD. Can't wait for BSG!
