MY MAGICAL LAZY CHEATING METHOD OF MAKING AND COLOURING ICONS: A STEP-BY-STEP TUTORIAL!!1

SETS I HAVE MADE WITH THIS: SETH | RADU | MIRKA | YUAN | MITHOS | ZELOS | ALESSANDRO | IONSeth's and Radu's are the earliest versions! Seth's has the most errors. The most recent--and IMHO best--ones are Ion's and Zelos's. I improve every time I make a set ( Read more... )

Y-you don't use layers? I use GIMP too but I've kinda been turning into a layer junkie lately. I think you can get the same sort of effect using an overlay layer and then you don't have to lasso things, just colour over ._.

I use one or two layers sometimes! But the only thing I mess with is transparency. And most of the tools have an option to adjust that, so there's no need usually. A-also touchpad. Which makes it more difficult to colour stuff in.

BUT I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW HOW YOU DO IT :( If there is a way to cut out all that lassoing that doesn't lighten the lines, I am game to find out.

I HAVE A TOUCHPAD TOO only I think it's easier than a mouse. It's like fingerpainting! :D

Hmmmm I'll have a play around and see if what I'm doing ends up like what you're doing \o/

I usually use my thumb to push the button and my index and middle fingers to draw with. My mum uses two hands though, so I guess it's just a matter of personal preference. Wow it sounds like I'm talking about something completely different doesn't it.

What're Ion's colours? He's not on the test icon page and I wanna see if I can imitate what you've got here with no-lasso \o/

HAHAHA

Ion's colours aaaare ... his colour tints are exactly the same as Mirka's, the hair fill is fefee9, skin fill is fffcf1, and the background is f4fcfd to edf2f8!

I didn't do the fill in bits or the background and I didn't get the blush dodged just like yours, but this took like five minutes or less:

Oh right I forgot that the way I do colouring in is to set up a new layer on 'multiply' and colour in there, and then play with the transparency until I like it \o/ still not sure how I'd do the gradient bit though (maybe that's why I don't use gradients XDD)
