It was cold in the room; the sounds of fighting cats, dogs, and drunken teenagers faintly audible through the closed window. Jinki was lying on the couch - he had point blank refused to share a bed with Key and Jjong- and huddled into a thick blanket, trying to prevent the cold air from seeping into his body.
Jinki was still wide awake. His eyes were burning and his body felt heavy, but as much as he wanted to, there was no way he could fall asleep. Memories of the day; of his aching chest and of the fact that he was stuck with two men who claimed to have superpowers and had showed them to him only a couple of hours ago made his brain work at its’ full capacity.
Key had explained everything to him, or at least the most of it, and assumed that things should have been perfectly clear to him by now. But the only thing Jinki knew now was that he had the ability to open a special kind of gate that could help the two ‘soul eaters’ get away from this world and probably escape to heaven or something; and that he was currently a target of soul takers like the two dead eyed boys that he had encountered previously.
Key had explained that Jinki shouldn't hate the boys, and that it was not their fault. He said that soul takers had been people with golden souls, like him; but they had had the bad luck of falling into the wrong soul eaters’ hands. They had sucked the golden souled humans’ souls out, and apparently had turned their souls into dark souls instead of killing them.
When Jinki stated that this seemed to be the soul eater's fault Key reassured him that a soul eater cannot tell if someone has a golden soul, only if the person was the golden soul connected to his and that everything was just a result of bad luck.
And so Key had somehow managed to make Jinki feel pity towards the two boys that had all but tortured him not so long ago. Jinki’s disgust for all soul eaters grew even more after hearing the other’s explanation, even though he still had problems finding Key or Jjong as revolting.
Still, his real questions hadn’t been answered at all. He wanted to know why the two had became soul eaters and why he was a golden soul, and how he should open this gate and why those boys were after him, and so, so much more. But Key had just sighed and Jjong said blankly that he was annoying and should shut up and go to sleep, because Jinki would want to be rested for the training he was going through the next day.
But that was easier said than done. There was no way in hell he could sleep or rest. And to top it off, the loud moans that were coming from the bedroom were impossible to ignore. Even if they had been going on for a while now, Jinki's blush just wouldn't go away and he cursed himself for the mental images his mind was producing without his permission.
He tried to distract himself from the all too vivid images by counting sheep, but obviously it wasn’t working, because how the hell could a sheep be more interesting than two beautiful men fucking? And indeed they were beautiful; mysterious, strong, dangerous and fascinating and it was like something that he could look at forever, but never have the nerve to touch; like a beautiful statue or a picture.
So there he was, listening to the noises that were coming out of their bedroom which could only be interpreted in one way, and wishing all those disturbing thoughts and images away as he desperately tried to sleep.
This was going to be a long night.

The next morning Jjong walked out of the bedroom humming happily as he made his way towards Jinki. The same Jinki that was currently sitting upright on the couch, yawning and sporting big, dark bags under his eyes.
“Didn't sleep well?” Jjong poked Jinki with his elbow, making him groan loudly.
“I didn't sleep at all,” he muttered, trying to keep the accusation out of his voice. Jjong ruffled his air, smiling lightly and he stood up.
“You should have told us, we have sleeping pills. Coffee?” he asked nonchalantly. Jinki blushed and Jjong raised an eyebrow, his smile forming into a smirk.
“I uh… didn't want to disturb you,” Jink mumbled. Jjong laughed out loud, causing the other to blush even more.
“I'm sorry - Kibum is always a bit loud,” Jjong chuckled, enjoying the other’s discomfort.
“Kibum?” Jinki asked, confused. Jjong's eyes widened in shock, and he quickly ran over to Jinki coming close to whisper in his ear.
“Forget that I said that. His name is Key. Got it? You can only call him Kibum when he allows you to. He is a bit careful with his identity and so on. Oh, and I'm Jonghyun by the way,” he explained. Jinki nodded, smiling brightly.
“Okay, Jonghyun. And I'd love to take a coffee if you're making one.”
Jonghyun smiled back. Maybe he wasn’t as scary as Jinki had thought he would be, after all.

Key stood behind the door, looking through a small crack as he watched the two men chat happily with each other. It was good to see them get along, especially since Jonghyun was usually a very cold person and Jinki seemed to be socially awkward. Key, feeling as if he had to take care of the two boys felt like a mother that finally got her children to get along with each other, and grinned with satisfaction.
He waited a few minutes more before stepping out of his hiding place, and walking into the kitchen that was welcoming him with the awakening smell of coffee.
He sat down on a chair next to Jinki, nodding a good morning and taking his cup away. He ignored the other's protests and took a big gulp of the hot liquid. Jinki pouted at him and Key had to stifle a laugh. For a moment, he felt as lighter than he had in years as he enjoyed the presence of someone as innocent and heart-warming as Jinki. The airy feeling however, didn't last long as he quickly remembered the reason why Jinki was with them.
“So today we're gonna start preparing you.” Key looked at Jinki his tone serious and even Jonghyun who had been all happy and funny a second ago was back to his serious-mode, eyeing Jinki from his seat at the other side of the table. Jinki put down his cup and nodded at Key, signalling him to continue.
“Have you ever felt something strange about you? Like, sudden warmth or a feeling of power or energy flooding through your body?” Key asked, wanting to start out slow.
But Jinki just shook his head. He sighed and stood up, entering the bedroom and coming out a few moments later with a yoga mat in his arms.
“So we'll have to start with the basics. Please come here Onew.” He placed the mat in the middle of the living room, motioning for Jinki to sit down on it.
He sat down awkwardly, a little bit too tense to seat himself comfortably and nearly tripped over himself. Key held his laugh back as much as he could and exchanged glances with Jjong, who seemed to find Jinki as funny as he did.
Key coughed, attracting Jinki's attention, who was currently unknotting his legs. “This task requires a lot of concentration. Basically you only have to find a little source of energy in your soul.”
“You have to find it so that you have the access to its’ energy; this is the energy you need to open the gate for us. The only difference between a normal soul and a golden soul is that your soul is more powerful and has a lot more energy, so that you won't die when you use a little of its’ energy like a normal human would.”
Jinki nodded as the other continued. “Finding your soul sounds easier than it is, because you will have to concentrate a lot. Close your eyes and think about something like a glowing ball or a floating flame in your body, decide how your soul looks like.”
“… Can it look like chicken?” Jinki asked plaintively.
Key’s eyes narrowed and he leaned over to smack the other upside the head. “No. It’s a damn glowing ball, alright.” Jinki nodded agreeably this time, rubbing his head and wincing.
“So… now, imagine this glowing ball in your body. It’s the source of all your energy; try to feel it; try to feel the energy flowing through your veins. …Okay?”
Jinki nodded again and Key stood up, smiling at him. “Then start now, we'll feel it when you find your soul, so don't worry about the “how do I know that I found it”. You just have to concentrate on the glowing ball.”
Jinki nodded again, closing his eyes a moment before cracking them open again, giving Key one last questioning look. “How long will this take?”
Key smirked down at him, and it gave Jinki a really bad feeling.
“Well now… that depends on you, doesn’t it?”
