Chapter 3

It was one of those days that had this stifling feeling to it. The air was tense and it was strangely quiet; even the animals were behaving with an odd precaution.

Key was sitting on the couch - the same spot where Jinki had been sitting only a short while ago - and relishing the tingling feeling that trickled through his veins every time he came onto contact with something that Jinki had touched.

He sipped his tea; he detested coffee, and tried to remain attentive to his surroundings. Key knew, just knew, that something was bound to happen after such a surprisingly boring and calm week.

So he wasn't even surprised when Jjong stomped into the apartment, cursing loudly all the while. Key just sighed, placing the cup of tea on the small glass table standing in front of the couch so he could lean back and warily eye what seemed to be one very furious Jonghyun.

“They got him,” Jonghyun hissed out through clenched teeth, breaking the silence.

That was all he needed to say, and in a few seconds Key was standing next to him; features coldly calm and collected. Jjong on the other hand, seemed to be losing that little coherency he had previously managed to hold on to; spinning around to slam his fist repeatedly into the wall, hands curled into white knuckled claws. The loud thuds of his anger were accompanied by growled cursing, voice nearly breaking under the badly contained strain.

Key sighed again, placing a calming hand on Jjong's wrist and preventing him from damaging the abused wall any further. He cocked his head up to meet the other’s shaken gaze with dark eyes.

“Then we should take him back, don’t you think?” he asked, voice barely louder than a whisper in the sudden quiet.

Jjong breathed out, calming himself down before finally nodding slowly. Moments later, the two dashed out of the apartment and disappeared into the rainy night with their hands tightly wound together.

---

Jinki woke up to the sound of muffled voices and his own heart pounding loudly in his head. He sat up only to immediately fall back again; the nauseating dizziness he felt making the walls spin. His head hurt like crazy, and he felt heavy and tired; his body ached all over.

“Oh! He woke up...” the voice was quiet and sweet like honey and it had a relaxing effect on Jinki. Well, it was as relaxing as it could possibly be; considering that Jinki at the moment certainly was not at all relaxed as he noticed the cold metal around his wrists and around his bare feet. They had cuffed him.

“Hey, open your eyes,” the voice instructed, and he did; fluttering his eyelids carefully against the bright fold of light that burnt his eyes. Not used the brightness, it took him some time to adjust and actually be able see something.

He was in a room, a room that was pretty much a barrack. In fact, he suspected that the whole building he was sitting in was some kind of barrack-like warehouse. The walls were mostly smudged and white, with the few leftovers of flower print wallpaper still clinging to them at some places. The dirty concrete of the floor was not in its’ best condition - it had black stains here and there, and it looked like the creepy, unreliable kind of floor that would creak every time someone would set food on it. The room was equipped with two old chairs, a desk that looked like it would collapse any second, and the small, squeaking bed where Jinki sat, trembling slightly.

However, it was not the sight of the room that made him shudder; neither was it the cold breeze that came out of one of the many holes in the walls.

It was the two beautiful men, no, two boys, that were standing beside the bed; one of them smiling brightly down at him and the other just staring with scarily blank eyes. They looked young, innocent even, and he would have pegged them for polite and well behaved teenagers if it weren't for the oppressively dark aura - Jinki could think of no other way to describe it- that was radiated off them.

It was a kind of aura that would make everyone within a six foot radius tense up with fear; the kind of aura that just screamed “if you’re not careful you will for sure die a painful death”, and Jinki found himself suddenly shivering.

He shifted awkwardly on the bed, avoiding the boys' gazes. He ignored the feeling in the pit of his stomach that was strongly urging him to throw up, and tried his hardest to dismiss the goose bumps and cold sweat that beaded on his forehead.

Jinki tried his best not to look too pathetic in front of these horrifying kids, if only because he had had to have some sort of mangled pride left as an elder. He looked around, feeling extremely uncomfortable but still doggedly avoiding the pressing gaze of the other two boys as he did so. He waited a bit, staring down at the floor, but they said nothing - only continued to look at him, now obviously and openly amused by the fact that Jinki was scared as hell. The silence was suffocating and since he had many questions in mind he decided to break the silence, even though he would have preferred not to.

“Uh... s-so you are?”

---

Key smacked Jjong upside the head, giving him a sign to be quiet and stop shifting and fidgeting all the time because Key had to concentrate and damn it if Jjong's nervousness wasn’t annoying him more and more with every passing minute. Key glared at him dangerously, his feline eyes saying everything without Key having to utter a word.

Be still, you idiot. I have to concentrate. It's not easy to track him when he is in their presence.

It was such an advantage that they were connected. It made telepathy possible for them and if possible, they would have liked to connect with Jinki as well, but due to time constraints, they hadn’t been able to do so before this fiasco had occurred.

But luckily Key had been clever enough to place a fragment of his soul into Jinki's coffee, making sure that they would be able to track him everywhere he went, even if they couldn’t physically see him and weren’t connected to his mind. Like they were doing right now, for example.

Still, the fragment’s miniscule size made it much harder - the smaller the fragment, the harder it was to track it. Key would have liked to use a bigger fragment, but it had to be tiny so that it wouldn't affect Jinki's Golden Soul.

Key and Jonghyun knew where their hideout was, and that they had taken him to it. Now the only problem was that the hideout was so large that it would take hours to find them, even if they didn’t move around. Not, of course, that such a thing had even a remote chance of happening - the captors weren’t stupid, after all, and they wouldn’t ever simply just stay at one place. And to make matters worse, they would be able to feel Key and Jjong’s minds; meaning that the two of them had to be fast and precise, otherwise Jinki would slip right through their fingers.

Key was massaging his temples with a frown prominent on his face as he concentrated on hunting for Jinki and tracking down his fragment.

Jjong though, who was sitting in front of Key, was attempting to stay stock still and not move a single cell in his body in a failing fight to keep himself from disturbing Key’s focus. But he couldn’t stop himself from biting nervously down on his lips, feeling extremely anxious because Key never, ever, took so long. Key was the fucking best tracker out there and Jjong started to get more and more worried as sweat began to form on Key's forehead.

Jjong wanted to do something, anything, but he couldn't - the only thing he could do at this point was to keep still and remain on his guard, in case they were discovered and attacked by one of them.

Just then, Key flinched suddenly; his eyes going wide and dazed. Jjong was even more alarmed than ever, because Key was usually calm and cool, but that's definitely not how anyone would have described him at that moment.

“I found him.” Key’s voice was shaking and he gulped loudly before continuing.

“He’s ... with the brothers,” Key finished quietly.

Jjong felt a shiver run through him at the mention them.

They were really in some deep shit now.
