three days and $2119.95 later, Nikki's home. with two months supply of prednisone and amoxycillin, and pending biopsy results. I have to take her back in two weeks for a followup exam and CBC, and the surgeon's gonna call on Monday for an update. her breathing and purring are still raspy, and I can tell her throat hurts cuz she's been at the water ( Read more... ) -

the surgery went okay. they didn't find anything that looked like a tumor, just a lot of swelling/irritation. the surgeon said it looked like inflammatory laryngitis; he put Nikki on steroids and antibiotics. he did a biopsy anyway just to be sure. they're monitoring her breathing, which is still ragged and irregular because of the blockage. they ( Read more... ) -

Nikki's in the veterinary hospital. she stopped eating sometime Thursday. debboamerik called me Thursday night to tell me she didn't eat her dinner, and I thought maybe she'd figured out a way to get to Miles' food (he's free-fed, his food is kept on top of a 4' bookcase), but I noticed Friday night she was gagging whenever she tried to drink as well. she ( Read more... ) -

I got adopted by a cat. her name's Sandy, she's a six year-old orange tabby. she's a foster cat, but she's going to stay with us at least until the next adoption fair, and if no one adopts her before we can afford to, she'll be ours. and by "afford to" I mean have enough income to take care of her, including shots and possible medical expenses, ( Read more... ) -
I've got you under my skin...
saw the allergist today. they did both skin allergy tests, scratch and intradermal. from most to least*, I'm allergic to ragweed (two different kinds), dust, leaves, mold, and grass. oh, and on a scale of 0-4, I'm 3+ allergic to cats. the only thing I'm more allergic to is ragweed. that explains why my sinuses are worse in the apartment than ( Read more... ) -

on a related note, I've discovered the Nikki Giovanni cat does not like ketchup, even when it's chicken-flavored. her love of maple syrup remains steadfast, however. -

the trip to the vet was unsuccessful as far as the cats are concerned; Nikki's diet has been reduced by 1/3 (5oz of wet food instead of 8) and we have to put ointment on Miles' eyes twice a day (the sealant that's killed our organic garden also irritated his eyes, though there doesn't seem to be any corneal abrasion). but they've both got their ( Read more... ) -

Jenise's 8 year-old niece - Myra is Jenise's friend who she lives with and sleeps with and kisses. i wonder how the adults overhearing this reacted; i suspect most of them were less than pleased.

- i just spent $25 on non-edible cat supplies; this should make my bathroom a happier place for everyone.
- miles could quite happily spend every moment he's not ingesting or eliminating something playing with me or curled up asleep on some part of my body; i should find this more endearing than irritating.
