chaerin and jiyong have a volatile relationship
749 words, drabble
one day, maybe, when they are both no longer celebrities, they can have a normal, healthy, fully-committed relationship. the number of times they have broken up and reconciled since they first met each other outnumbers daesung's iq.
chaerin knows she shouldn't be with him. she knows she can do better. far handsomer, kinder, smarter taller, richer, more humble, more famous men could have been hers. he has cheated on her and been unapologetic about it. he has neglected her. he has, on several occasions, tried to break up their relationship by making her break it off with him first.
people have often said she is too stubborn for her own good. but when chaerin wants something, she gets it. and if she decides something is hers, it's hers for good. to be hers is to be loved, to be cared for, to be kept. chaerin keeps those she loves.
so when he tells her i've been with someone else she hunts down the offending someone-else's car and sets it on fire and then tells jiyong's mother that he has cheated on her. she then breaks it off without batting an eyelash and hooks up with his friend at his birthday party. she knows where it hurts the most.
jiyong knows he shouldn't be with her. he knows he can do better. far prettier, kinder, smarter, slimmer, cuter, more humble, more famous women could have been his. she has knowingly stomped on his heart with no regrets. she has been cold to all of his efforts to please her. and she has, on several occasions, broken it off with him for no other reason than that she did not want to see his face anymore.
people have often said he is too sensitive for his own good. but when jiyong loves someone, he loves without reservation. he gives over his entire being and keeps none of himself for himself. his entire being, however, changes possession as often as he changes clothes. when music plays, music has his entire soul. when he is with her, she has his entire soul. when he is with another girl, he gives her his entire soul.
so when she tells him we're done he cannot help but feel liberated. he is free from her clutches, for the time being. he knows she will want him back. she keeps what is hers. so he goes out and meets many other girls. helps himself to the feel of their flesh. in a few days, he will be hers again, so he enjoys the new sensations he experiences.
the feeling of liberation is fleeting, though. days pass and she has not called. his advances garnered no answer. he worries. she does not normally take this long to demand him back again.
he checks his phone obsessively. without access to the internet, he resorts to asking youngbae what she's doing. she's in hong kong right now. hong kong? what is she doing there? when he returns, he sees images of her draped over her fashionable friends. so she has completely forgotten about him. this is it. this is really the end.
later, they think, they can chalk it up to immaturity, but really, they have no excuse. hurting each other has become an unbreakable habit. it has also become as easy as breathing. they care about each other too much not to react and revenge always seems to be the weapon closest at hand.
youngbae shakes his head as he sees his best friend flash his i'm going to have you grin at the pretty female celebrity who comes backstage as a fan during their latest concert. this again. he knows chaerin will find out and when they both return to korea, nothing and no one is safe. he pities the poor girl, to unknowingly be caught in the crossfire of such a volatile relationship. as usual, chaerin breaks it off with jiyong and he hops around from bed to bed before he realizes (for the millionth time) that chaerin will not try to get him back so he crawls back to her, pouting and pleading his way to another chance. in the meanwhile, chaerin will have exacted her revenge on the girls he chooses to sample (revenge which jiyong still remains oblivious to).
maybe one day, when the two give up the fast, celebrity life and decide to live quieter lives, they can be human to each other. until then, this is all that is left of them.
