I respect my friends. I like to think I associate with intelligent people, despite the fact that I often disagree with them since they are often insightful in their commentary, which helps me to reason out my own opinions ( Read more... )

Take a good look at the word you just used; "Reactionary". What you're annoyed at is just people's first reaction. Most likely, they'll calm down after a while, but getting mad at them now is like getting mad at someone who's just been punched for saying "ouch". I know for a fact you've said things in the heat of the moment that you didn't really mean. What makes this situation different? People have a right to vent. You have a right not to read it. Ain't free speech grand?

Personally, I intend to stay right here. I think the ideal of America is worth fighting for.

And we're glad to have you.

It's not so much that I'm mad its that I am disappointed. And its temporary, since friendships should NEVER be permanently affected by what is said on the internet (unless something nasty is said about somone's mother). The human brain's natural filters get inhibited somehow I swear...

If your estimation of me has dropped, then I apologize, but there's nothing I can do about that. My squabble/argument with Mark was mainly due to the fact that he was coming across as authoritative and sanctimonious, which is the same attitude I hoped our people would see in Bush and vote his ass out.

But I digress.

I've considered moving from America for quite a number of years, and the ongoing dissatisfaction I have with our current form of government is just enhancing that. I'll probably stay here because I have nowhere else to go and I'd be leaving friends and family behind, but I no longer consider myself American. I consider the rights and privledges I have as a benefit that I pay taxes for.

As a side note, this is why I've issued a politics ban at my apartment. I don't want to alienate anyone else, and I know that in my heightened feelings of aggression and disappointment, I don't know that I could *not* be a dick. Thus, nobody's going to talk about it, at all.
