musings on a rainy day

Yay! There was another "worst of" list, and St. Louis wasn't at the top!!! We're also the city with those least likely to swear at other drivers...but you better believe we're "thinking" curses.

In other news, Jerry Falwell died this morning. My heart goes out to his family. Losing a loved one is never easy, and I hope they can move on just as other families have to move on. However, I find it very hard to find much of any compassion for him, especially as a Christian. Falwell left a legacy of hate. His supporters and apologists can spin it any way they want, but I'm sure I'm not the only one that sees it this way. I could never quantify his affect on humanity, but I'm left with so many questions: How many people's hearts were hardened by his words? How many terrorists felt a bit of (undeserved) relief when Falwell egregiously misplaced the blame for 9/11 on gays, feminists and pro-choicers? How many Jews were disenfranchised with their Christian brothers and sisters when Falwell said that God didn't answer their prayers? How many people were driven to suicide because he (and so many others like him) said repeatedly that God hated them?

All I can say right now is that I hope that God affords him the mercy that he never seemed to afford to others.

christianity, religion
