Movin' On Up

So this is my desk at KPFF. The commute and the lack of sleep drove me to the brink of my sanity, but I got another job offer just before I teetered over the edge into madness forever. Yay!

The sad news is that after three months of working for the corporate machine, I had enough time to make some attachments. It's hard enough making new friends when you move across the country. It's even harder to say goodbye after you lay you roots in a job. I really did, too. I completely gave up trying to find another job. I'll miss them, and try to keep in touch of course, but it's definitely all for the best. Because my new job is Awesometown.

I applied for the writing job with Action Training Systems shortly after I moved to Washington. This is the company that makes training videos and simulator software for firefighting, HAZMAT, and Homeland Security. They interviewed me and liked me, but they didn't think I had enough experience for the position. The head honcho, George, said there would be another position opening up at the beginning of summer, so they may hear from me then. I honestly figured he was just trying to be nice. But I got the call back and we did another phone interview. When he offered me the job, I almost shat myself.

So I'm the new Production Coordinator for Action Training Systems. ^_^! So I won't be one of the head writers, but I will be working with the writing team AND the video production team. How cool is that?

The reception job wasn't too bad, but there are a lot of perks that bowled me over on this job. Por exemplo:

KPFF:
Pay = Meh
Reception bitch work (loading dishwashers, making coffee, general minutia I'm told to do)
Business dress
3.5 hours commuting a day
Blisters from walking in work shoes
~6 hrs of sleep a night
Working for a multi-national corporation >:(
Health, no dental, no vision, no 401k matching

ATS:
Pay = Wooooo, much better!
Casual dress!!!
Less than 1 hour commute :3
Time/money/energy to go to gym
~8 hours of sleep a night (hopefully)
Working for a local company with big contracts :)
Health, dental, vision, AND 401k matching

So, as you can probably tell, I'm happy with the results. I met most of the people I'll work with and they seem cool (very different from KPFF though). I guess this means I won't be moving back to Oklahoma anytime soon, but we'll see how it goes.
