Energy and craziness

Things sure are never really boring around here. The hardest part is trying to keep track of all the balls in the air and not droping any. Managed to put together a meeting of the Sustainability Coordinators from across the state's Higher Ed or as Kari calls them "all the different Ryans". Also, I am looking at breaking my job up into parts with the creation of the new "Office of Sustainability" for EIU. I feel like students are looking at Universities to see if they have one. What is interesting to note is that it seems like most of the Universities Sustainability Offices have student employees while here it has half a full time person and that is it. Oh well, just keeps me busier and our costs down.

On the energy side, things are just going crazy as most anyone who has not been living in a cave knows. The crazy part was in an e-mail I got last week that stated "It is a struggle to describe the energy market anymore." That came from the energy marketers who do nothing but research energy. They are supposed to know the most and it seems that they have given up trying to figure things out. Energy prices have been going through the roof while there appears to be little in the way of real market forces at work anymore. Speculation has taken over the market. Everyone is seeing the pain at the pump. Today I came back to town to find diesel at $4.83. That is 67% higher than one year ago and 36% more than the beginning of the year. I have not seen anything inflate at that rate ever.
