It absolutely disgusts me. The fact that a Wal-Mart employee (another reason for me to dislike Wal-Mart) was trampled to death while people ran into the store when they opened the doors at five in the morning is insane! People were also pushing the cops and paramedics that were tending to the man as they were still trying to get by to shop. The store then closed and people didn't want to stop shopping and started throwing a fit saying they were in line since yesterday and what not. Where is your humanity??? It's JUST stuff, yeah I like stuff as much as the next person but at the cost of someone's life. This just says a million things about people and the world we live in that something like this would actually occur. America quite possibly has some of the most messed up values ever, I love America, but seriously people really need to look at themselves and reflect on their beliefs and morals, and what's really important in life. I'm far from a perfectly moral person and I don't know if there truly are any, but I'd like to think when it all comes down to things I'm a pretty decent person. The seven deadly sins as they are known seem to run rampant in the U.S. moreso than any other place. I think people should really focus on the basics of the world and what things are at the heart of it all. Life is about family, friends, having an enjoyable time, striving to improve yourself and help others around you. There will always be pitfalls and lapses in this, but does someone really need to die so you can buy something for a discounted price?? I mean half (probably more) of the hot Christmas items are usually a distant memory when Christmas comes around the next year so why do we obsess over materialistic things so much. Does anyone remember Tickle Me Elmos, Furby's, Beanie Babies, and shit like that, it's all relatively worthless now, so what's the point of these frenzies and crazy hypes that people get into over such things. Go take your kid to a park or spend some quality time with them instead of getting these items by all means necessary. I hope I am able to raise my kids to appreciate things in a much better light than how it seems how people are today. People need to find more exposure within the intangible: art, music, film, good company/conversation, just life experiences. While some of this is tangible in the sense of buying a CD or DVD or looking at a piece of art, it's how you actually interpret it and the emotions it makes you feel. The actual experience of it all and what you take away from it, I think that's what is lacking in society today because most people have lost sight of the small things in life. After all the small details are what the big picture is composed of.
