Re: the fanfic question ... I think the only touchy part is what you identified already, that none of the concepts or characters could be "recognizable" from their origins (down to specifics, I mean). Because otherwise, I think writers borrow from popular conceits and stereotypes all the time, and if we weren't able to there wouldn't be a whole lot left to use, right? ;P

Thanks! I can't wait to have time to write it! It's tentatively called "The Suburbs" (but damn you Arcade Fire for naming your Grammy winning album that, I might need a new title now, boo), because all the stories will either take place in the same town or be about people from the town (and it will be a kind of unnamed Anytown, USA deal). I'm excited!
That's very true, especially working within a genre. And I think by the time I change enough to have the characters be unrecognizable (IN MY HEAD I WILL KNOW IT'S MILES) I'll have re-written the whole thing anyway. I think I'm going to use them as a basis for plot and that's it. :DD
