it's decided

i will be moving to Istanbul to teach English and probably Spanish within the next year. once the stupid GREs are out of the way, i shall prepare for my life abroad. the plan is to stay for 6-12 months. i'm uber excited. you may call me crazy. don't really care. i haven't gotten the travelling bug out yet (quite possible that i never will), but i need to do this before graduate school...wherever that will be.

i've wanted to learn Turkish since i was 15 -- this is the most interesting/adventurous/effective way of accomplishing it. i want to see more of Turkey, have authentic Turkish coffee, learn to haggle, travel along part of the silk road. i want to push my boundaries, learn about different customs, really grow as a human being, and help others in the process. with my little summer voyage, i set the ball rolling in that direction.

if i don't do it now (er...within the year), i won't do it ever.

Pop gave his approval. Whether he'll retain it by the time final steps are taken, i'm not sure. Mom's okay with the idea, although i can tell she isn't happy about the distance. i'm going to miss them so much when i leave.

p.s.
going to berkeley in a couple of weeks-ish for a much needed escape.
