After doing nothing more than the occasional random commute ride in who knows how long, I decided to drag my ass out of bed at 5:00 this morning and take a bit of a ride. It was good to get out there for some saddle time, and I'm probably calmer this morning (coming back from a week's vacation) for having done it. But the numbers are kind of depressing. I think I'm in the worst shape I've been in since I quit smoking and bought that first bike, ten years ago.
distance: 10.8 miles
ride time: 0:43:54
avg speed: 14.7 mph
max speed: 30.5 mph
avg cadence: 88 rpm
max cadence: 112 rpm
Between this reckoning with my physical condition and the knowledge that my hectic schedule is simply not going to allow me to do the training or the fundraising, I have decided to withdraw from the
Tri-State Trek. It's kind of a relief to finally come to that decision, but it's also kind of depressing.
