eclecticmuses April prompt: Have you ever suffered from something good gone bad?

Apr 26, 2008 20:10

It's hard to imagine anybody not having experienced something good going bad. Isn't that essentially the way the world works? "The road to hell is paved with good intentions" and all of that? It's impossible to tell how things are going to turn out, so even the most well-meaning people are bound to screw it up at least some of the time.

Most of the time it doesn't even matter if you meant well. Nobody is going to appreciate the effort you made, anyway. People want what they want. It doesn't matter if what they want isn't what's best for them. Hell, it really doesn't even matter if what they want is unequivocally horrible and potentially disastrous for them. It's still what they want and God forbid you try to suggest any kind of an alternative. To have any actual noteworthy effect on a situation, you have to resort to trickery and deception. And eventually the person will find out and then the good thing has gone bad.

Or at least, that's been my experience.
