So apparently Borders is finally shutting down. This really does disappoint me. You know all those entries tagged "bookstore"? Borders is the bookstore I was talking about. I'd say somewhere around 85% of all my TPBs, as well as random assorted issues of Tiny Titans and Brave and the Bold AND my copy of the Superman/Batman: Public Enemies film, were all from Borders.
I *like* my Borders. It's a nice place, and it has a more varied selection of comic books than Barnes and Noble (which is directly across the street from Borders... lol). I mean B&N is okay, but they tend to stick closer to the Superman/Batman/Wonder Woman comics--you know, the really famous ones, like Frank Miller's crap stuff and all that. With the exception of Bat-Manga! (which I actually got from a much larger NYC B&N) and Teen Titans: Year One, I never really found much of interest at Barnes & Noble.
But Borders? They've got a shelf and a quarter just devoted to comics. There's the usual suspects, like the Frank Miller books and more recent releases (like Rise and Fall... *sigh*), but they always seem to have books with more obscure characters, for instance, the Secret Six. Borders is where I got my Harley Quinn: Preludes and Knock-Knock Jokes, all of my Superman/Batman TPBs, my Justice League Unlimited: Heroes, among others. I ALWAYS look forward to going there, because I know I will almost ALWAYS find something interesting to look at. And knowing that it won't be there anymore by the end of the year is a very sad feeling.
For those of you who actually bothered to read my eulogy to a bookstore, thankies. And to Borders, R.I.P. :-(
(I need a sad icon. Let me go find/make one.)
