It wasn't long after she found Jim and Dwight that she was ushered off to the clinic despite protests that it was way too early for her to really be giving birth. Nevermind the fact that it was obvious her water had broken and the contractions were happening closer together now ( Read more... )

Lennox was excited and nervous and a little bit worried at the same time, but he mostly just wanted to see the baby, trusting the doctors and Jim to take care of Pam. Still, when he got the all clear to go in, Lennox hesitated, chewing on his bottom lip worriedly before he finally went into the clinic.

"Hey," he said, smiling as he approached. "You okay?"

Pam smiled back at him and nodded. "I'm just a little tired," she admitted. "Giving birth isn't as easy as it sounds."

With a quiet laugh, Lennox came closer, grinning at her. "Everything I hear about it makes it sound pretty rough, so I dunno who was telling you it was easy," he teased.

Pam rolled her eyes at him. "Whatever. Did you come to see your niece?" she asked, angling the baby so Lennox could get a better look at her.

"Yeah," Lennox said as he sidled up beside the bed, looking down at the baby and grinning at her. "Wow." And that was really all he could say for the moment, just stared at the tiny baby in Pam's arms.

"She's really pretty," he added after a moment.

"Of course she is," Pam replied, laughing. "Did you think she'd be ugly, Lennox?" Pam pretended to look hurt.

He gave another laugh and shook his head, because he hadn't though that at all. Reaching out, he stroked a fingertip over her little cheek, suddenly horribly sad for Eddie, sad that he hadn't seen Emmy like this, hadn't been with Lily when Emmy was born.

"So what's her name?" he asked, looking at Pam again.

"Samantha Leeanne Halpert," she recited with a grin. "I'm just glad she didn't end up with Jim's big ears." She chuckled to herself and the look on her face gave away the fact that she was only kidding.

"No kidding, man," Lennox replied with a teasing grin, then stroked Samantha's cheek again. "So you need anything? I could get you... uh... ice chips? Isn't that what I'm supposed to offer?"

Pam shook her head. "No," she replied, even though she almost wanted to ask for the baby back. Her arms suddenly felt so empty.

"I think I just need a nap, really. I'm okay, otherwise."

"Oh," Lennox said, looking awkward then, glancing down at the baby and then holding her to Pam. "Should I... leave? Um... I mean, give you the baby?"

Pam shook her head, but took the baby back anyway. "You don't have to leave," she insisted. "I like having the company."

She settled the baby back in her arms, gently rubbing her fingertips against Samantha's stomach. "She'll probably wake up again soon, so it's pointless for me to try and sleep anywa."

"Warn me when you need to..." Trailing off, Lennox gestured at his chest and grinned a little at Pam. "I think I'll need to leave at that point. Jim might kick my ass otherwise. Shit, sorry, should I not say the word ass around her?"

Pam raised an eyebrow at him, though she quickly caught on. Her eyes widened and she chuckled.

"Maybe we should get you a gag to wear around the baby," she suggested, still laughing.

"I wish you were joking," Lennox said, looking sheepish. "Emmy already repeats all the bad words I say. And all the good ones, which isn't so bad, but there's something really wrong about my little god daughter saying 'ass'."

"Once Samantha starts learning to talk, we are getting you a gag," Pam said seriously with a nod of her head.
