It wasn't long after she found Jim and Dwight that she was ushered off to the clinic despite protests that it was way too early for her to really be giving birth. Nevermind the fact that it was obvious her water had broken and the contractions were happening closer together now.

She was set up in a bed and Dr. Claire checked in on her often. In between contractions, she felt wiped out. She just wanted this to be done and over. She just wanted to go to sleep, really, but nobody would let her.

"Hey.." Jim's voice came at her from somewhere to her left and she turned her head towards it without even lifting it up from the pillow.

"I don't know if I can do this," she cried quietly. "I changed my mind. Isn't there something they can do to stop this?"

She was talking nothing more than nonsense, but she just wanted to cry.

"What? Pam.." He tilted his head at her, his face serious, barely masking his worry. "You can do this. I know you can. You're strong." He bent over and pressed his lips to her forehead, a nervous smile on his face when he pulled away. "I'll be right here the whole time, okay?"

She reached for his hand, squeezing it gently, and nodded. "I love you, Jim."

"I love you, too." He didn't let go of her hand and quickly realized his mistake. As soon as the next contraction hit her, he felt like his hand was breaking. He half expected his bones to come popping out of his knuckles and his eyes went wide.

Next thing she knew, he was calling for the doctor. There had to be something they could do for her. Anything. He didn't really want a broken hand, but he didn't say that. He was pretty sure she could hear what he was saying.

Claire looked her over and shook her head. "Still too early for her to start pushing. Don't worry. It's her first pregnancy, they usually take a bit longer."

Pam couldn't even say how long they had to wait. It felt like time stretched out so minutes became hours and she could've been lying there for three days for all she knew. The only thing she knew was that the contractions felt like they were coming one right after the other now.

But, finally. Finally. Claire came in to check up on her again, talking to her, asking questions. After a moment, she looked up with a wide grin. "Pam. When the next contraction hits, I'm going to need you to start pushing," she announced.

Pam nodded quickly and reached for Jim's hand, her eyes pleading.

"I'm right here," he murmured, taking her hand and kissing her temple. "You can do this."

"Okay, Pam."

The next contraction hit her and she squeezed Jim's hand tightly. The pain was almost unbearable and she could feel herself starting to cry.

"C'mon, Pam," Jim said softly.

The rest of the birth passed without incident. Well, if you didn't count Pam cursing Jim out for ever impregnating her in the first place and insisting that he never touch her again, that is.

Little baby Samantha Leeanne Halpert was wrapped up in a blanket and cuddled up against Pam's chest, finally sleeping.

"She's so tiny," Pam breathed, looking up at Jim and smiling tiredly.
